As Chinese language belongs to Sino-Tibetan with ideographic writing, while Russian language belongs to Indo-European with morphological writing, it is difficult to some extent to understand and translate Chinese and Russian that belong to different language families. Moreover, inter-translation between Chinese and Russian idioms is harder, as idioms involve Chinese and Russian people’s experience in remolding the nature and knowing the society as well as their linguistic intelligence. Based on the existing research results, this paper aims to apply Cognitive Linguistic Theory, Metaphor and Metonymy Theory, Construction Grammar Theory and Mr. Xing Fuyi’s Grand and Small Triangles Theory to classify and analyze Chinese and Russian idioms, an important linguistic phenomenon. It creatively puts forward four specific steps for inter-translation between Chinese and Russian idioms, namely "go deep into understanding of source language", "explore etymology of idioms", "investigate cultural connotation" and "interpret in smooth language". The paper also sets up three types of forms for Chinese and Russian idiom inter-translation:literal translation with completely matched form and meaning, changed translation with form replaced and meaning retained, and free translation following meaning with form eliminated. The mode chart of the three types of forms for Chinese and Russian idiom inter-translation is shown in this paper. This paper is divided into nine chapters, and the contents of each chapter are as follows:Chapter One is the introduction. First of all, it states the reasons for choosing the paper topic:for the needs of practical teaching, deepening theories and cultural transmission. Secondly, it briefly introduces the current situation of study on Chinese and Russian idioms. Thirdly, it introduces the research methods, research significance, corpus sources and structural system. Finally, it briefly states the theories that support this paper, including Cognitive Linguistic Theory, Construction Grammar Theory, Metaphor and Metonymy Theory and Grand and Small Triangles Theory.Chapter Two is the overall discussion on Chinese and Russian idioms. It focuses on analyzing and concluding the concepts and features, structural characteristics, semantic expression techniques, cultural connotation and rhetoric, clearly presenting the similarities and differences between Chinese and Russian idioms. Additionally, it makes a brief introduction to the classification of Chinese and Russian idioms, and specifies the classification of Chinese and Russian idioms in this paper.Chapter Three-Chapter Seven are the core and main parts of this paper. In these chapters, the author applies Cognitive Linguistic Theory, Metaphor and Metonymy Theory, Construction Grammar Theory, Grand and Small Triangles Theory and other linguistic theories to conduct comparative analysis on noun-type, verb-type, adverb (verb)-type, numeral-type and special Chinese and Russian idioms, carries out meticulous exploration on quantities of Chinese and Russian idioms in terms of structural forms, semantic core and cultural connotation, proposes four specific steps for inter-translation between Chinese and Russian idioms, namely "go deep into understanding of source language", "explore etymology of idioms", "investigate cultural connotation" and "interpret in smooth language", and adopts Construction Grammar Theory to set up three types of forms for Chinese and Russian idiom inter-translation.Chapter Eight is the multi-perspective and multi-dimension empirical study on Chinese and Russian idiom inter-translation. On the basis of the above mentioned comparison between Chinese and Russian idiom classifications and the translation forms that have been tentatively set up, the author summarizes four specific steps and three general translation forms for inter-translation between Chinese and Russian idioms. Finally, taking the idiom translation from Chinese to Russian for A Dream of Red Mansions as the example, the author carries out scientific and practical verification of the three translation forms that have been set up in this paper.Chapter Nine is the conclusion and prospect. It draws a conclusion of this paper:when translating Chinese and Russian idioms, we should practice in accordance with the four steps, namely"go deep into understanding of source language", "explore etymology of idioms", "investigate cultural connotation" and "interpret in smooth language"; when conducting inter-translation between Chinese and Russian idioms, we should adopt the three translation forms, namely "literal translation", "changed translation" and "free translation" according to different situations. Meanwhile, the author also points out the shortcomings of the paper as well as the subsequent research direction and goals.
