Family, is the basic social unit based on blood tie; similarly, the musical family is a social group consisting of "musicians". The formation and development of musical culture is intimately related to the promotion and involvement of musicians. Evidently, different social structures and cultural environment cultivate and influence executers of musical behaviors-musicians. The music art constitutes the core content of inheritance in musical families, while education is an essential segment during the whole process. This study casts attention on the special social group-musical families and defines them as a integrated research object. Through cases studies and comparison between two eastern and western reputed musical families, this paper attempts to explore the spiritual journey of musical art inheritance within musical families and further discusses the advantages and internal mechanism of the whole process. As a consequence, it reaches a conclusion that summarizes the major approaches and factor of musical art inheritance, and reveals the similarities as well as differences of this process in eastern and western musical families.To be specific, this paper prudently selects two reputed musical families in Chinese and western music history, w-hich are the Bach family in Germany and Situ family in China, to conduct case studies and comparative studies. Through reviewing the musical and historical files left by these two families, including family pedigree, family historical records, musical works manuscripts, biographies, this essay tries to analyze and explore a variety of aspects including the origin residential spaces, reasons for prosperity and decline; education background, life experience and artistic contribution of major family representatives; education principles, modes, features of family mottos and traditions; as well as the interactive relationship and mutual influence between social culture environment and the inheritance as well as development process of family education.As a consequence of this research, the family is found to be a vital embodiment for cultural inheritance and skills passing on. More or less, these two musical families have impacted and changed the development and progress of social culture through music. They inherited music among family generations, promoted music education concepts, and cultivated a batch of well-known musicians. Generations of these family were committed to music creation, performance and theoretical study, which promoted the progress and development of music culture, devoted individual and family strength, and inherited musical concepts as well as social responsibilities. They have accomplished the mission of culture transmission and communication when inheriting family music arts and skills.Family is the most importance space to combine congenital factors and postnatal environment.
