| In this thesis, I study the music in northeast Thailand, mawlum in Laos and the music in youjiang of Guangxi province. Their connections are studied. I focused on two key problems. The first problem is how "mawlum pee fah、mo pee " in Thailand and Laos becomes mawlum. The second problem is whether there are connections among music in northeast Thailand, mawlum in Laos and the music in youjiang of Guangxi province.My study begins with a survey on the history of northeast Thailand and Laos. Based on my field study and the collected materials from local artists, I analyze the connections between mawlum in northeast Thailand and that in Laos.Based on the field study of Thailand, Laos and GuangXi province, combining the related literature, I discuss the changing process from mawlum to musical art. Furthermore, I build a relationship between "mawlum pee fah" as a rite and mawlum as an entertainment.Based on my study and previous works, I discovered that the people of Thailand, Laos and Zhuang nationality may be differentiated during the the Northern and Southern Dynasties. They travelled by xishuangbanna and north Laos and get to where the live now. When they stayed at north Laos, they learned the drinking culture and the instrument Kaen, which become important parts of Mawlun pee fah and mawlum.By comparing the details of singing in different cultures, I confirm that "me mot" is the ancient source of mawlum. Furthermore, I prove that mawlum in Thailand and Laos and "me mot" in Guangxi province is developed from the same source.I conclude that mawlum for entertainment is developed after the people of Thailand and Laos differentiated from Zhuang nationality in Guangxi province based on the fact that "molun" and mawlum are different in many aspects. By comparing the instruments used in "mawlum pee fah" and "me214 mot31",I make the following conclusion:mawlum in Thailand and Laos and "molun" in Guagnxi province are development from the same source. |
