A Study On The Syntactic And Semantic Format Of The Referentiating Qualitative Adjective In Modern Chinese

The qualitative adjective is used as research object of this article. On Corpus Quantitative Analyze, there are four forms of the reference that the qualitative adjective performs in a sentence, including the Bare forms, a kind of plus qualitative adjective, preposition plus qualitative adjective and attributive adjective. This article discusses methods and effects of the Semantic referring Functions in a sentence. Predicate as subject and object is the phenomenon that has always been a hot issue for the scholars. Scholars focus on the phenomenon where a verb is used as subject and object from the Lexical Category changes, referring type, verb’s semantic type, which is the referring verb. The phenomenons of referring adjective are much more complex than that of verb. This paper analyzes the qualitative adjective of non-noun lexical category and the semantic structure with adjective-centered on the perspective of semantics. E.g "The heat swallowed half of the ocean, even memories are involved with tiredness, it is kind of stupid to have trust in you, he recognizes the importance of reserving effective energy and the ordinary people contribute to the increase of greatness with being common, etc." Through the analysis of the relationship of conceptual semantics and the relationship between syn-tactics and semantics, this paper argues that the reference of qualitative adjective lies in the semantic relationship system constituted by conceptual semantic framework of adjective ang the semantic framework of syn-tactics. Within a sentence, the semantic referring functions of the qualitative adjective are not only restricted by the referring semantic relationship of conceptual semantics of adjectives between the characterization of the object, but also restricted by the semantic relationship of syn-tactics between adjectives and sentence components.The main contents are summarized as below.First of all, there is the description of the referring semantic condition of the qualitative adjectives. The reference of qualitative adjective is the fact that the cognitive subject forms a cognitive impression based upon the conceptual meanings of a adjective, and the process where it represents things, events and people through impression. Within the semantic field of vision, the types of the qualitative adjective is described, which refers to the semantic level of the referring of the qualitative adjective. According to the conceptual meaning and the cognitive means which is divided into the modifying of things, events and people. The distribution of the semantic type of the referring of the qualitative adjective, the pattern of manifestation of referring semantic relationship and the semantic patterns are analyzed. Based on corpus statistics, this paper finds out the selection for semantic patterns for the referring qualitative adjective is both restricted by the syntactic position and the conceptual meaning of its own.The Bare forms of qualitative adjectives which are modified things have the highest proportion, e.g " stand deserted ", " covered with rugged ", " Write magnificent".The qualitative adjectives which are modified events frequently conbination with the lingking verb, e.g:"Hutton’s report owe justice", "Distinguished from love". The qualitative adjectives which are modified people are the most common type, e.g:"The cruel become a widespread infectious germs history", "The Bones revealed a haughty"Secondly, this paper analyzes the semantic relationship of the reference of the qualitative adjective. Within the semantic field of vision, the reference of the qualitative adjective depends not on the semantic types of the verbs and the semantic relationship of verbs and objectives but on whether there is a generic, possessive and origins of semantic relationships between the cognitive impression of the formation of the qualitative adjective’s conceptual meaning representation object and between the qualitative adjective and other syntactic components. Such as to pursue verisimilitude, to be involved in ponderousness and to feel messy. In this paper, the condition where the referring of the qualitative adjective is put in between cognition and perception is clearly elaborated through the analysis of the semantic relationship of the field of cognition. With Syntax and Semantics Relations of the qualitative adjectives and verb semantic features as the basis, the subject adjectives semantic format is divided into four types:Cognitive object, Autonomous sensing target, Non-autonomous sensing target, Involuntary aware content; the object adjectives semantics format have there types:Cognitive content, Autonomous sensing target, Involuntary aware content; the object of a preposition of adjectives semantics format have two types:Core semantic elements and Non-core semantic elements. When the position of the subject, the qualitative adjectives acts as agent, patient, linking things or describe things. When the position of the object, the qualitative adjectives acts as linking things, describe things or taget object. From a functional perspective, this paper explores pragmatic motives and rhetoric function of the referentiating qualitative adjective, the referentiating qualitative adjective reflects the speaker’s subjective perception.Finally, this paper analyzes the representation in the styles of the referring qualitative adjective. This paper emphasizes the expressive patterns of the adjective’s reference marked with "be,have and by." Such as A is A, A has A’X, and say A by N. And it anaryses the expressive situation of the referring of the qualitative adjective within different styles. It mainly focuses on the writing styles from news, politics, essays, prose and poems an on colloquial styles from conversations and interviews.In short, the referring of the qualitative adjective is the continuity of the development of Chinese language, reflecting the characteristics of modern Chinese grammar system. There is a wide range of contact between the realization of the referring of the qualitative adjective and semantics, syntax, pragmatics, cognition. The research on the referring of the qualitative adjective will help in-depth study of the language and will provide reference to language teaching and language translation.
