Study On The Format Of “Bu A Bu B”

This paper takes modern Chinese ‘Bu A Bu B' format as the object,conducts a research about constitution basis,semantic types,semantic constraints and other aspects of ‘Bu A Bu B' format.There is also a comparison between this format and two other recent class formats,‘Mei A Mei B' and ‘Wu A Wu B',in order to find the uniqueness of these three formats in semantics.Finally from two dimensions of semantics and grammar to inspect the format function of ‘ Bu A Bu B' format.Besides the introduction and conclusion part,the main body of the paper consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 mainly analyzes the internal composition of ‘Bu A Bu B' format.It begins with the discussion of the steady term ‘no' and the unsteady term ‘A' and ‘B'.The discussion includes the syntax function of ‘Bu',the characteristics of ‘A' and ‘B',and the semantic relationship between ‘A' and ‘B'.Finally it talks about the format meaning of ‘Bu A Bu B',and review the impact of format meaning on ‘Bu A Bu B'.The second chapter investigates the structural relations and semantic types of ‘Bu A Bu B' format in detail.Based on a large number of corpus collection,the structural relationships of ‘Bu A Bu B' format are divided into two major categories,which are parallel relationship and condition relationship.Then a more detailed classification is given according to the different semantic relationship of A and B.The semantic relation in parallel relationship is relatively complex.This article divides the relation into four types,justice,opposition,contradiction and addition.Under condition relation,there is only assume relationship between A and B.The third chapter discusses the constraint factors of ‘Bu A Bu B' overall.The semantics of this format changes because of both internal factors and external factors.Internal factors incloud constructional meaning,external factors include Psychological expectation,context and so on.This chapter tries to discuss the constraint factors of semantics about ‘Bu A Bu B' comprehensively and systematically,and figure out how the above factors affect the semantics of ‘not A not B'.The final chapter is about the comparison between ‘Bu A Bu B' and its nearly class formats,‘Mei A Mei B' and ‘Wu A Wu B'.There are both differences and connections in semantics between these formats.‘Bu',‘Mei' and ‘Wu' are negative words that have different grammatical functions,so ‘ Bu A Bu B',‘Mei A Mei B' and ‘Wu A Wu B' have their own characteristics in semantics.For the most of time,no one of them can replace others.
