With the development of reform and opening up, China has entered into the period of transition. At the same time, diversification has become the time background and notable characteristic. The ideology sphere is greatly influenced and challenged. Especially with unceasing penetration of western social thought trends, people’s thought mode as well as values is experiencing a huge shock. With the continuous attack and corrosion of capitalistic ideology, the primary mission of ideological and political education is “to consolidate the guiding position of Marxism in ideological sphere, and to ensure the common ideological basis for the struggle of the whole Party and people of all ethnic groups." However, in such a pluralistic world, it is worth of deep thoughts and reinforced study to search the practical direction for the security of national ideology through literary propaganda, public opinion guidance and any other reasonable ways.As President Xi Jinping stressed at literary and art work conference on October 15 th, 2014, "Literary and art is the horn of going forward. It best represents the style and features of an era and leads the social tendency." He has also pointed out that literary and art workers are engineers of souls. The literary and art work must take socialism core values as its banner, carry forward Chinese spirit, gather Chinese strength and encourage people in all ethnic groups of our country to march into the future with confidence and vigorousness. "Patriotism should be the main-melody of literary and artistic creation. It should guide people to establish and insist right conception of history, nationality, state and culture, at the same time, enhances the confidence of being a Chinese." Main-melody films, as a cultural tool of transmitting dominant ideology, is vital to party construction work and ideological and political education. Therefore, it is highly valued by the party and our country. In different historical periods, the Chinese Communist Party use literary and art works to unit people and satisfy people’s need. "Once the theory is grasped by the masses", it will be turned into mighty "material force" and will give the seemingly strong energy a heavy blow. In new era, developing and transmitting main-melody films scientifically and effectively are beneficial to the Chinese Communist Party control of ideology and to the education and guidance of people. Therefore, it can maintain the safety of national ideology. This requires us to study, excavate and give full play to the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films. Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and State Council’s "Opinion on Further Strengthening and Improving the Ideological and Political Education of College Students" calls for the general ideological and political educators to develop various kinds of positive academic, technical, athletic, artistic, and recreational activities, combining the moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetics education together in entertainment. In recent years, main-melody films in our country have made remarkable achievements and shown a good momentum of development. "The Long March", "Assembly", "The Founding of a Republic", "The Founding of a Party", "Back to 1942", "Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy" and a large quantities of main-melody films and TV works come out in society, receive favorable comments from the masses and set off the upsurge of creation time and time again. Under such circumstance, it is of great significance to research the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films.Based on the above-mentioned background and cognition, taking the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films as the core, this thesis takes theoretical analysis, structural analysis, diachronic analysis, synchronic analysis and tactical analysis stepwise. It contains the following five chapters.Chapter One: theoretical analysis. This chapter mainly introduces the basic connotation, internal relevancy and theoretical basis of this thesis. That is to say, define the relevant concepts of the main-melody films and the function of ideological and political education; analyze the triple internal relations between them and offer theoretical references of this thesis on systematical literature review.Chapter Two: structural analysis. This chapter explains what exactly the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films is, following the sequence of “basis-element-relation”. First, analyze the division criteria of the constitution of the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films. Second, clarify its main essential element. At last, reveal the relation among these elements.Chapter Three: diachronic analysis. This chapter focuses on taking diachronic analysis from longitudinal trend. It separately introduces the specific influence and characteristics of the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films in the periods of new-democratic revolution, socialist revolution and construction, and reform and development. And on this basis, the author sums up the basic characteristics, time significance and relevant experience.Chapter Four: synchronic analysis. This chapter takes horizontal synchronic analysis combined with real case analysis. First, it analyzes the current status of the function of ideological and political education in main-melody films. Second, it sets forth the bottleneck problems by specific analysis of typical cases.Chapter Five: tactical analysis. In view of the bottleneck problems analyzed in last chapter, this part tries to construct an innovative ideal model to solve the above-mentioned problems. First, from ideology point of view, socialism core values and people oriented principle is chosen as the strategic ideas. Combining with the development reality of main-melody films, the author puts forward four improving principles. Second, straighten the relation among the management organization, movie creator and audience. In addition, construct a "triangle circulation" model lengthways. Third, from the artistic form point of view, strengthen pluralistic interaction and win-win cooperation; therefore construct a "reticular interaction" model crosswise.
