Core Interests Analysis In View Of Contemporary Marxism

A great deal of attention has been paid to the issues of China’s “core interests” by the top leaders from government and academia since 2000. Indeed, national core interests will influence national survival, independence and development. It’s crucial for the strategy and police formulation for national security and development.On September 6, 2011, the state council information office of China released “the White Paper on China’s Peaceful Development”, elaborating the future developmental direction of China and its special significance to the world. The document has clearly articulated China’s core interests for the first time. For domestic researchers, it is helpful in clarifying the guiding ideology and the research orientation. And for oversea researchers, it is effective to avoid potential misconception hindering effective communication.The author chooses China’s core interests as the direction of research for the following reasons. Firstly, the People’s Republic of China, as one of the world powers, is becoming an active contributor to and participant of of the international system and plays a critical role in today’s international affairs. China’s declaration of its national interests is helpful to other countries to understand the bottom line of its security interests. Other countries can better recognize China’s national interests, which could also reduce misunderstandings by other countries and prevent conflicts from happening. Furthermore, the “China’s core interests” is one part of Chinese peaceful development strategy, a significant symbol of Marxism in China, and an important component in the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics.In This dissertation, we firstly explore the theoretical origins and implication of core interests. At beginning, we trace theoretical origins of the national interests from Marx to three generations of Chinese leaders since 1949. Furthermore, in the theoretical framework of Socialism with Chinese characteristics, we intend to explore the theoretic significance of the theory of "harmonious world" put forth by President Hu Jintao and its theoretical contribution to Marxism Domestication, Modernization.Secondly, the dissertation discusses what exerts on China’s core interests due to the globalization development from the aspects of security, economy, political and especially culture. Thirdly, we devote three charters to describing a variety of issues of what being and may affect core national interests and looking into the reasons behind them. And finally, in the last four charters, we attempt to answer how to respond to the full range of challenges to core national interests from the layers of theory and practice.
