United front ideological education means ideological education activities in the united front work, which belongs to the scope of ideological and political education. During his long-time devotion to and leadership in Chinese Communist Party’s united front work, Li Weihan has accumulated fruitful experience of united front ideological education and produced many theoretical summaries and illustrations, forming characteristic united front education thought. The basis and conditions for Li Weihan’s united front education thought include Marxist united front ideology and its ideological and political education, Chinese Communist Party’s united front ideology and its experience of ideological and political education, as well as Chinese nation’s tradition of united front and its cultural essence of ideological and ethical education. In Li’s opinion, united front ideological education is the basis for all united front work and the core work of united front activities, and it is also an indispensable weapon for realizing the mission of united front. United front ideological education must obey the Party’s spirit and the principle of combining unity with conflicts and criticism with self-criticism; however, it must be used according to different objects in practical work. In the ideological education of democratic parties, we must, on the basis of judging their natures, give them ideological help so that they can give full play to their uses to unite democratic parties, transform democratic parties and develop democratic parties. In the ideological education of industrialists and businessmen, we should guide them to receive socialist transformation and conduct “dual transformation” and do the ideological education as the core mission. In the ideological education of minorities, at first, we must make it clear that ideological education is the foundation for solving ethnic problems, and then conduct ideological and political education with the main content of equality, union and unity of all Chinese nations. At the same time, we should attach importance to the development of socialist nations and the education of united front. In the ideological education of religious circles, we should insist in the viewpoint that religious problems must be solved with “spirit weapons”, making ideological education the guidance of conducting the freedom of religious belief policy and the basis for conducting the peaceful reforms of religious institution. In the ideological education of intellectuals, we must scientifically analyze and understand their class attribute, strictly insist in the fundamental goal of mobilizing their initiatives, and adopt corresponding ways and methods according to their characteristics. Li Weihan’s united front education thought is colorful and has distinct characteristics. It always reflects the epochal character of united front ideological education, actively sustains the scientific nature of united front ideological education and continuously seeks the creativity of united front ideological education. Li’s united front education thought develops Marxist united front ideology, expands Chinese Communist Party’s view scope of united front work, and enriches the connotation and extension of united front discipline development, having great contemporary significance.
