As a complex social phenomenon, rumor has played a significant role in the human history as well as various models of human communication. Having inherited the characteristics of traditional rumors, the online rumors in public events also carry new features given by network platform and kinds of New Media technologies. This dissertation studies the generation and spreading feathers of online rumors in public events, conducts empirical researches on psychological and behavioral characteristics of main subjects during online rumor spreading in public events, and combined with studies on rumor persuasion skills and rumor credibility, discusses psychologies and virtual community participation of the main subjects. And at last, summarizes the interactive mechanism among different subjects and tries to provide feasible references and suggestions for related research and the management of online rumors in public events. This dissertation is composed of eight chapters.The first chapter presents the main research questions and defines the core concepts of the dissertation, and by literature analysis, summarizes findings and experiences of previous researches and puts forward the research mentality, framework and research innovations of this dissertation.The second chapter analyzes the features of online rumors in the context of New Media and constructs the index system of the research. Using quantitative research methods, the arthor also summarizes the communicational features of current online rumors in public events in China.By conducting empirical research, the third chapter discusses the psychological and behavioral characteristics of main subjects during online rumor spreading in public events, and analyzes roles and effects of different subjects by dividing the whole procedure of online rumor generation and spreading into different phases.The forth chapter analyzes the communicational skills from the perspective of information processing and emotional text injection in online rumors in public events; explores the veracity cues by Critical Incident Technique; and then discusses the Filtering Phenomenon during the recipient of online rumors.In the fifth chapter, the author summarizes the formation mechanism of online rumors in pubic events and conducts qualitative research on social psychologies during the triggering stage of online rumors. Based on discussion of the motivations in rumor spreading, the author also analyzes the dynamic effect in the public opinion field during rumor spreading.Finally, the author discusses participation of the main subjects during the spreading of online rumors in public events, analyzes the communicational feathers of online rumors from the perspective of subjects’ intensions, tries to explore the decoding and multivariate authentication mechanisms, and draws the management revelations towards online rumors in public events.
