Research On The Strategy Of The Government In Dealing With Online Rumors In Public Emergencies

With social media such as Microblog、Wecha、Mobile Phone APPs gradually coming into people’s daily life, not only do they bring us technological innovations, but also new ideas and thinking. President Xi Jinping attended the World Internet Conference, and for the first time he sent best wishes for all Chinese people for the new year through microblog (being 300,000 times forwarded already). He visited the People’s Daily and issued a new media voice Lantern Festival greetings. All the above manners reflect our government’s special attention to social media, and it is obviously that the relationship between government public relations and social media is inseparable in the future.But social media has brought people some negative impact as well as convenience, and online rumors are the most negative ones. If the government can not give response in time, the online rumors will have an impact on the credibility of the government, and even affect the government’s image. Online rumors in public emergencies is a new kind of government crisis in social media era. It is different from traditional government crisis in both its causes and characteristics. Since the number of public emergencies has been rising in recent years, it requires more efficient response to the government. Research on government’s response to online rumors in public emergencies is very necessary, and only in this way, the government can take an active position in online rumors of crisis management in public emergencies.In addition, the author will combine theories including public relations, communication, sociology to make a summary of current problems in current government dealing with online rumors in public emergencies. And the author will draw on experience with foreign government, and put forward recommendations and policy optimization to the current government’s response to online rumors in public emergencies with crisis management theory.This paper is made up of five chapters. In the first chapter, the author will mainly introduce the background, purpose of this paper, and introduce domestic and foreign research status, and briefly expound the theoretical basis, research content, methods and innovation points. In the second chapter, the author will define the related concepts and explain its nature. In the third chapter, the author will set government crisis management theory as theoretical basis、summarize the current government’s online responses to online rumors in public emergencies, and analyze the reasons, which is for proposing strategies in chapter five. In the fourth chapter, the author will set "8·12 Tianjin Port extremely serious explosion" as a case study to see if Tianjin Municipal Government did well in dealing with online rumors in this public emergency. Finally in the fifth chapter, the author will draw on experience with foreign government, and put forward recommendations and policy optimization to the current government’s response to online rumors in public emergencies with crisis management theory.
