Ideals and beliefs education(IBE) for college students plays a crucial role in political education at universities. The efficiency of IBE is closely linked to the existence of the Communist Party, the future of the country, and the Socialism in Vietnam. Persistently preserving socialism national indepence, as well as building a successful socialism Vietnam is the most fundamental mission of IBE.College students are a source of intellectuals as well as the future owners of the country. However, they are largely sensitive to political and social issues because of their shortage of work and life experiences, which makes them indecisive about political standpoint. In addition, current Vietnamese students are living in a completely independent and free country with a plenty of conditions to develop their potentials. The fact that they did not have to go through wars and the hardship; and being born in the rennovation period might make current college students underestimate the present situation that their forerunners risked their lives to claim back. Moreoever, the complicated political situation of the world and the region, the reverse effects of the the market-driven economy, and the sabotage of enemies…have been exerting their negative impacts on IBE. These factors have made a remarkable proportion of students become pessimistic and indifferent to politics as well as underestimate the values and tradditions of the revolution. They begin to lose their trust in the The Youth Union and the Communist Party, and also in the success of the rennovation and the path to socialism.Given the afore-mentioned situation, together with the mission of developing a generation of socialism Vietnamese to meet the demand of building the country in the era of industrialisation and modernisation, there should be optimum solutions to improve the education of politics and ideology in general and EBI for Vietnamese students in particular.The thesis explains the features and classify different definitions of ideals, beliefs, and IBE; and the necessity of boosting IBE for students. The thesis is about the survey on IBE and analyse factors that affect IBE for Vietnamese college students. Based on the current situation of IBE for college students, the author identifies the content, principles and IBE methodology for Vietnamese college students. The author proposes fundamental contents of IBE for Vietnamese college students. It is believed that to achieve success in IBE, Vietnamese college students should be provided with the right understanding of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh’s ideals, and scientific evidence to reserve the ideals of Vietnam Communist Party. Additionally, students should be taught how to identify and critique fallacies made by enemy forces, by which their ideals and beliefs can be strengthened. This is an important, complicated and difficult mission, which is directly related to the political position of the Communist Party, the existence of socialism, an the prosperity of the country. Therefore, IBE for Vietnamese college students requires the combined education of knowledge of Marxism-Leninism, ideals and beliefs of socialism, communism, patriotism, students’ trust in the Party and the way to socialism in Vietnam. However, the long-term missions is to turn the the knowledge into concrete contributions to the country’s revolutions. For IBE to be efficient, beside abiding by general education rules, it requires the insistent implementation of specific rules such as The principle of orientation, Permeable of Principle, The principles of Human nature.The course of forming ideals and beliefs is a long-term, complicated process, and affected by various factors. It can be said that, IBE for college students should be carried out in a way that encourages them to develop and practice habits themsevles. If students are forced accept the knowledge, IBE will not be efficient. The author strongly argue that IBE for Vietnam college students should focus on educating political theories, convincing students, putting forward practical activities, making good use of the media, and encouraging students to practise. Only by doing so can there be a new young generation with strong ideals and beliefs, morality and talents, who can contribute to the industrialization and modernization of the country, being on its way to socialism.
