The Analysis Of Self-Construction Of College Students’ Media Image In The Era Of New Media

There are two reasons that college students are the targets of media representation:on the one hand,their marginal social position and lack of the social resources resault in less speaking right;on the other hand,the group trends to represent the alternative, provocative and avant-garde style because of the symbolic resistance of vulnerable groups against the dominant culture.Their efforts to change the own roles,the social status and identity cognition reflect the time variation,and enhance their exprenssion desire of changing the status quo,which represents the deconstruction and reconstruction practices of their own role and image.The self-constructed media images are profited from new media technology.The defects of media-image construction becomes the realistic motives and theoretical supports with the development of youth subculture and the rise of new media.Especially,the new media technology supplies the technical advantiges.Moreover,the rise of the social forms and the change of college students’ subject consciousness constitute different social context for the college students’ media image of self construction.In this study,the author used some effective research methods,such as literrature study,comparative research,the field study,access method,survey study,etc.,with the interdisciplinary field of semiotics, youth subculture, urban space.What they saw,thought and lossed was converted to pictorial symbol that its meaning was fixed by students,that they holded the construction rights of their own image. The context of the study consists three levels.Firstly, image symbols become the representing way of self-constructed media image of the college students.Secondly,youth subculture is the content source of the college students’ media image of self construction.Thirdly,urban space is material carrier of the self-constructed media image.According to the realiltic show in the visual culture,the self-constucted media image involved three forms:symbol player,cultural participants and space otherness,which produced corresponding perspectives of the research.The selecting and meaning producting of pictorial symbol show clearly the intention that they used the symbol to maintain distance from the mainstream ideology and commercial culture. They constitute the three perspectives of the study.Visual image reconstruction reflects the profound changes of the macro environment,and important influences on contemporary college students.Faced with all the demands of contemporary college students, humanistic education is undergoing profound shifts. In this background, work mind,work methods and educational content will inevitably produce consistent change with the new requirements of the times.Meanwile,setting a correct understanding of the characteristics of the students as the logical starting point,their cognitive style,behavior and values emerged stronger consciousness.Only fully utilizing this consciousness, humanistic education can make the students consciously accept and internalize the educational content.
