As the organizers of sports training, mentors, managers and coordinators of human relationships, coaches are playing a leading role in the training process. The ability, quality and the teaching level of the coaches have a direct impact on the development of a country and on the international competitiveness. Therefore, the developed countries attach great importance to the training of coaches, have established a relatively perfect coach education system. While after more than 50 years’ practice and exploration, a coach education system where non-academic education is separated from academic education gradually formed in our country. However, the imperfection of coach education system in our country, to a certain extent, restricted the improvement of the overall quality of our coaches.By means of literature documents, analyzing and summarizing, comparative analysis, case analysis and other research methods, from the two aspects of non-academic education and academic education, this study reviews the history of the coach education in China and makes an in-depth analysis of the current problems as well as the shortcomings existing in education. On the basis of the successful experience of foreign countries, it proposes the countermeasures on the improvement of the Coach Education System. The main conclusions are as follows:Ⅰ. Recalling the development process of Coaches Education in China, I find our coach education system mainly offers non-academic education, concentrating on job training, which leads to the structure where non-academic education coexists with academic education. There is a big difference in emphasis between the grass roots and elite in non-academic education as well as the contradiction between the diversification of education levels and the simplification of career paths in academic education.Ⅱ. Having analyzed the coach education system in China,I find two issues existing in it. In the field of non-academic coach education exists the responsibility ambiguity of organizations, the limitations of coach training classification, slowly-updated training materials, the urgent needs for improving training methods, training funds mainly from the government, one-sided ways of assessment, the lack of evaluation of the effectiveness of vocational training, the deletion of further education management and so on. In the field of academic coach education also exists the ambiguity in professional orientation and training targets, the monotonous enrollment patterns, the inflexible academic structures, insufficient course development in professional orientation, the ignorance of practice, one-sided assessment methods, the average teaching level, the disconnection of degree certificates and professional qualification certification etc. Totally speaking, in non-academic coach education, the quality of our coach education, which is difficult to meet the social demands for high-level coaches, needs to be improved. In academic coach education, there is a certain gap between coaches’ average expertise and their professional specifications as well as requirements.Ⅲ. Through the analyses on coaches’ current situation of education in some developed countries, such as Britain, Germany, Canada, the United States, Japan and Australia, I find the characteristic existing in it. It found that in the field of non-academic coach education exists in related government departments macro guidance, sports association or social organization concrete implementation, the improvement of technical grade the system of coaches training, professional curriculum content, diversified funding sources, a variety of training methods, strict examination evaluation system, attaching great importance to the continuous education of coaches, impeccable coaches education guarantee system, and so on. In the field of academic coach education also exists the ambiguity in professional orientation and training targets, the flexible academic structures, the diversified enrollment patterns, course embodies the combination of academic and professional, independent learning and practice learning, comprehensive evaluation model, academic coach education combined with professional qualification authentication, etc.Ⅳ. From two aspects of non-academic education and academic education on a comparison of domestic and foreign coaches education, we can get experience and enlightenment of foreign countries coaches education:the equality and openness of coach education; attach great importance to the ethics of coaches; the education content highlights the development of professional ability of the coaches; the online network of coach education; non-academic coach education have a mutual integration with academic coach education, strictly enforce coaches’ continuing education, which is associated with the coach qualification re-certification.Ⅴ. On the basis of analyzing the current situation, referring to the successful experience in coach education in foreign countries, it proposes measures to improve coach education from the two angles of external strengthening and internal consciousness; formulate coach professional standards; gradually implement coaches’ professional qualification certificate system; concentrate on integrating pre-vocational education, pre-job training and further job education to give support to informationalization construction along with perfecting regulations, bringing in professionals, quality supervision and the guarantee system.
