Study Of 2008 Beijing Olympic Cultural Legacy

For the healthy, scientific development of the Olympics and the renaissance of Chinese culture, this dissertation explores the concept, value, protection and utilization of the cultural legacy of 2008 Beijing Olympics through literature and data, logical analysis, expert interviews and field surveys, etc.This dissertation aims at defining the content and building the standards of cultural legacy of the Beijing Olympics based on the background of Chinese and Western philosophy and the combination of the basic theory of inheritance study and the concrete situation of 2008 Beijing Olympics cultural heritage, which includes all the excellent cultural relics related to the Olympics inherited, developed, and created between September 6,1999 (establishment of the Olympic Bid Committee) and August 22,2009 (dismiss of Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee). There are four criteria to define it. Firstly, we should differentiate positive and negative cultural legacy and it is the former that is brought into focus. Secondly, the space of the cultural legacy involves Beijing and other venues. Thirdly, there has been formed a tradition and consensus as to which elements are involved and the elements take certain forms and are long-lasting. Lastly, the cultural legacy and relevant products must be designed, distributed and manufactured specifically for the 2008 Beijing Olympics by the International Olympic Organizing Committee, the Chinese Olympic Organizing Committee, or other organs of authority.The cultural legacy of 2008 Beijing Olympics is divided into tangible and intangible cultural legacy and investigated, classified and graded, and its significance and value analyzed, viz., political, economic, cultural, artistic, scientific, and educational values. Then, on the basis of present situation and relevant experiences, an analysis is made of the feasibility of its development and utilization in the hope of exerting its potential fully and protecting it reasonably. Since the cultural legacy can not be renewed, protection is the prerequisite of utilization in that only when the two aspects are balanced can we make the best of the legacy to contribute to the renaissance of the Chinese culture.
