Research On Airport Industry Cluster In A Systems Perspective

With the development of economic globalization and knowledge-based economy, theglobal aviation network formation, air transport as an important mode of transport forinternational and domestic trades, the airport has become an important node of thebusiness flow, logistics and information flow. In this context, the “Airport EconomicZone”,“Air metropolis” become a trend of world economic development. This paperfocuses on airport cluster development, a particular type of industry; some theoreticalproblems of formation mechanism, general path, and forms of organization of clusterdevelopment are discussed and an empirical analysis of airport cluster development inChina is given.With a variety of cluster theories,the methods used in the analysis process, include:the industrial background analysis, quantitative analysis, such as input-output analysis andmodeling, and case studies. The identification of airport industrial clusters, with thelimited data available, using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, themain body of the study consists of four parts.The first part is the establishment of analytical framework for the airport clusterdevelopment (Chapter2)including the four aspects of the space dimension, timedimension, the organization’s network, the global value chain.In Chapter2,analyticalframework for airport industry cluster development mechanism, is proposed based onSystem Theory, combined with a different perspective cluster theories on the basis of theconcept of airport, airport economy, airport industry cluster, including four aspects: thetime dimension, the space dimension, the industry function, the organization network.The second part, analysis on airport industry cluster fractal dimension analysis(Chapter3,4,5,6). Cluster is a kind of economic phenomenon and featured historicalperiodicity, in Chapter3, taking transport-industry-enterprises as a breakthrough point, thecollaborative development and parameter analysis, time domain investigation areconducted.In Chapter4,economic space is a source of airport industry cluster development.in the analysis of spatial dissipative structure based on the discussion, of differentperspectives in aviation industry and airport, city and region, globalization and localization discussedindustrial cluster space connection.Airport effects is analysed,including the external effects, spatial effects, flow effects, network effects. The industrialfunction relation is the necessary condition of industry agglomeration,in Chapter5, the airtransport industry as the starting point of analysis, the input-output analysis model forairport industrial economic and technicalquasi-clusters has been established, constructsinput and output index system, and the empirical analysis.Through economic and technicalanalysis of the quasi-cluster, open chain, tree type, circular, three industries coupled modesare advanced.In Chapter6,The formation of the network organization is an important stagein the development of industrial clusters. Application of system dynamics analysis andcombined with the successful typical case, taking flower industry cluster in Netherlandsand Shannon Airport Free Zone for an example, analysed its self-organization andhetero-organization characteristics and mechanism.The third part, cluster resource niche model for the general path of the airportindustrial clusters has been established, and cluster resource niche is analysed(Chapter7).Finally, the airport industrial cluster development in China is analizedspecifically(Chapter8), in contrast with the international airport economic developmentexperience, taking Shunyi airport economic zone as an example, and policyrecommendations are drawn with a strong practical value. For local economic agents,airport industry cluster is a micro-region cluster governance issue. Governmentalorganizations in the industrial clusters play an important performance.
