Construction of airport economic zone is not only conducive to promotingregional economic development, but also to maximize the use of resources on aglobal scale, and enhance the country’s International competitiveness. Vigorousdevelopment of airport economy is not only an important means to promote urbaneconomic development and transition, but also in line with national developmentstrategies and security needs. In this context, the construction of airport economiczone is in full swing in China, several airport economic zones have emerged recently,such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Zhuhai etc. Airport economy is anew featured economy form, and related research still needs to be further. Generallyspeaking, the domestic research on airport economic zone started later than abroad. Inaddition, the current theory study lags behind the development practice of airporteconomic zone in China. This thesis explores the development trend, industrialcharacteristics and spatial layouts of airport economic zones based on the relevantexperience, therefore takes the airport economic zone of Beijing new airport as anexample for the collaboration of industry and space layout. The research results canprovide some scientific suggestions for the construction of Chinese airport economiczones including Beijing new aerotropolis; also promote the sustainable developmentof airport economic zone in a certain degree. Furthermore, the results could provideguidance for spatial layout evolution trend of the airport economic zones in China.First of all, the research background and significance are discussed in thisdissertation. Through combing the research and development status of both domesticand foreign airport economic zones, this paper introduces the technical route. Thenbased on industrial economics, spatial economics and urban planning theory, thepaper mainly examines the concept of airport economic zone, the characteristics andclassification of airport industry, as well as circle layout features of airport economiczone. Subsequently, starting from the regional relations, the paper discusses theindustrial and spatial interaction between the airport economic zone and the airport,the city center and also the hinterland-the combined effect of the dispersion effect.Through summarizing the development process of several typical airport economic zones in the world, the paper outlines the space layout evolution of the airporteconomic zone: independent airport district-airport industrial area-airportmetropolitan area, then analyses collaborative mode of industry and space layout inairport economic zones at various stages, furthermore reveals the features in everydevelopment stage. And then combined with the new changes and features of airporteconomic zones, the paper explores and prospects their future trends-Airport townCluster. After that, the paper conducts an empirical analysis of the airport economiczone of Beijing new airport, which focuses on the collaboration of industry and spacelayout, trying to apply the theory and methods to the planning of airport economiczones and provide theoretical support and new ideas for the development of China’sairport economic zones. Finally, this thesis summarizes the research and includes themain conclusions.
