Manufacturing is an important component of a nation’s industries; the developmentof manufacturing promotes the process of modernization and influences the humansociety greatly. International division is the main driving force for a nation’smanufacturing. After the Second World War, the international division changesdramatically, the global value chains specialization has been formed and developedrapidly, and the global value chains specialization is becoming a dominant form ofinternational division gradually. Global value chains specialization breaks theindependence and the integrity of industry development in developing countries, and it’sdeeply affecting the growth of industries in developing countries. Global value chainsspecialization begins from manufacturing; this brings an unprecedented developingopportunity for the growth of manufacturing in developing countries. By participating inthe value chains specialization, China has been a big manufacturing country and thesecond economy in the world. But on the other hand, the value chains specialization alsobrings some risks to the development of Chinese manufacturing. Therefore, how to takeadvantage of the value chains specialization rationally and get the maximum benefit hasbeen a biggest strategic goal on internationalization of China. On the basis of the introduction of industries’ development in developing countriesunder the circumstance of global value chains specialization, this article studies theinfluence of value chains specialization on the development of Chinese manufacturing bylogical analysis, historical experiences analysis and cases analysis; and throughcombining international successful experiences with the reality of Chinese manufacturing, this article researches the strategies of promoting Chinese manufacturing developmentunder the circumstance of the value chains specialization. This article is divided into eight chapters. In the Chapter one,That is introductionpart, the subject of this article is stated from the point of reality, and it points that anindustry’s growth is presented as the improvement in competitiveness, industrialstructures and industrial organization. Then, it sets forth the research thinking, studyingapproaches and the possibility of breakthrough and innovation. Chapter two mainly reviews the studies on value chains specialization andindustries’ growth, and points out the future focuses and trend study. This chapter centersaround two parts: the influence of value chains specialization on industries’ growth, andanalysis on theories of industries’ growth.Based on chapter one, chapter three develops the current researches further; itintegrates the relationship between global value chains specialization and industries’growth, and forms a complete logical system. This chapter puts forward a dynamic modelof diamond industry‘s growth with six main elements, an analysis on the mechanism ofvalue chains specialization promoting industries’ growth, three models of industries’growth, and other relative theories.Chapter four analyzes the process of Chinese manufacturing growth and theinfluence of global value chains specialization on Chinese manufacturing. It shows theclose relation between the rapid growth of Chinese manufacturing and global valuechains specialization; then, it analyzes the motives of China participating in global valuechains specialization from external changes and internal developing demand. At last, itanalyzes the influence of global value chains specialization on China manufacturing, andit’s possible to have a positive influence from theories and practices.Chapter five, Chapter six and Chapter seven analyze the growth of Chinesemanufacturing and the influence of value chain specialization on it from the points ofindustries competitiveness, changes of industries’ structure and industries’ organizationalchanges.Chapter five begins from the existing literature; it discusses the connotation’schanges of industries’ competitiveness under the environment of value chainsspecialization, it points out the international market competitiveness is the basic form ofindustries’ competitiveness, and the change of export add-value index reflects the essenceof industries’ competitiveness under the environment of value chains specialization. Thischapter avails two indicators to analyze the competitiveness of15manufacturingenterprises, and shows there is a raising trend in Chinese manufacturing competitiveness, but add-valued indexes are low commonly. By cases analysis, this article proves valuechains specialization promotes Chinese manufacturing competitiveness. Chapter six studies the literatures on the influence of value chain specialization onChinese manufacturing. Then, there is a deep discussion from two ways: inter-industryupgrade and intra-industry upgrade. By a logical reasoning approach and historicalexperience, it puts forward that value chain specialization promotes industries’ upgradein developing countries; then through a cases analysis, it points out that Chinesemanufacturing upgrades obviously among different industries, but intra-industry upgradeappears a declining trend. The cases econometric analysis proves the value chainsspecialization makes a promotion on inter-industry upgrade of Chinese manufacturing; itenhances the unfavorable position of low-end specialization further, and deteriorates theinterest of specialization.Chapter seven is around two models of industrial organization: industrial marketstructure and geographic structure. After analyzing the existing literature, it uses logicalanalysis and historical experiences analysis and puts forwards that the modularizedindustrial organization model and foreign investment have a positive effect on theindustrial organizational structure of developing countries under the environment of thevalue chains specialization. Then it analyzes the changes and developing trend of marketconcentration and geographic agglomeration in Chinese typical industries, and points outthe lower market concentration and the higher geographic agglomeration have aweakening trend. In the cases econometric analysis, it uses geographic agglomeration ofmanufacturing to be dependent variable and lets the degree of value chains specialization, the ration of fixed assets investment and permeability of foreign investment be explainedvariables, to analyze and verify the conclusion in this chapter. The eighth chapter sums up the research points and conclusions, and put forward thedirection for further research.
