Zhang Taiyan was a important historical figures at the end of the Qing Dynasty, who in our description has two identities:a activity revolutionary for abject Manzu and a scholar have profound Knowledge. My study just from this problem, the relationship between these two identities.The life of Zhang Taiyan through the key period of Transformation of Modern China。 The description for this transformation as follows:in political field, china had been transformed form a traditional country which base on the tributary system to a modern nation which model himself on modern west nation-state; on view of culture, it had been a huge change that the total political pattern becoming a kind of differential culture. In other word,"Wen" in the traditional thoughts, was divided to literature, history, philology etc.With the reflection of modernity developing in the academic circle, the reflection of modern literature also be carry on. Zhang Taiyan’s research on ancient Chinese academy was just about these reflections on modernity.This paper is divided into two parts. The first on relationship betweenrt "Wen" and "Nationality", and the second about Zhang Taiyan’s research on ancient Chinese academy.Zhang Taiyan inherited and to elucidate the mechanism of the traditional thought of "culture" as a cultural creation and inheritance, this mechanism presents the uniqueness of this civilization itself, which is reflected in:first, people’s position and role in creation of a civilization which represent the characteristic of this civilization; second, there are some pivots in process of the creation and rheology of the character and the generation and inheritance of the ancientbooks. These are unique and vitality for a unique civilization just dwelling in.The second part of this dissertation, we’ll interpret Zhang Taiyan try to find and incite these pivots and mechanism from his ancient study, which include linguistics philology history and literature. In his linguistics and philology study,he find a set of character s created in first time, and regarded them as the symbolic of China. At the same time, he interpret "Zhuanzhu" and "Jiajie"(two ways for create character) as the pivots in the change of character, finally, he developed his argumentation for political legitimacy of ancient China just as a political community. In the literature study, he expand the literature concept to a very expensive field, include all of the write form, such as character、graphic, on the other hand, he reset literature in the ancient politic framework, and reject the modern literature which based on "sensibility". In his history study, he reaffirmed "Liujingjieshi"(The six classics are all history, key word of Zhang Xuecheng), and based on this, he searched a way for confirm the faithful historical account. Finally, Zhang Taiyan consolidate the subjects of ancient Chinese academy to history, in which, nationality should be conservation.Zhang Taiyan’developed his thoughts about relationship between "Wen" and "Nationality" in his ancient study, which are directed against contemporary some projects of modernity, such as, Jinwen Jingxue、New history、Didacticism. Facing eries of political, cultural crisis, in China’s transition, Zhang Taiyan with his own way to create a Road to construct entity and the subjectivity of the China, and it provides us with a reference to the creative transformation of traditional resources.
