This research attempts to, from the aspect of syntax, semantic, and pragmatic, analyze the indications of degrees of adjectives in Chinese and Vietnamese. The whole study, therefore, is divided into six chapters, as follows:The first chapter is a brief introduction which mainly summarizes the previous studies, presents the reasons for choosing this subject, and indicates the significance, objectives, methodology sources and structure of the research.The second chapter is divided into two parts. The first part presents the adjective is used as adverbs which indicate the degrees of adjectives in Chinese. Meanwhile, this cannot be found in Vietnamese. It is this difference that highlights the distinguished usage in Chinese adjectives and Vietnamese adjectives. The second part presents the adjective is used as adverb (complement) which indicates the degrees of adjectives in Chinese and Vietnamese. Some examples of adverb of degree appearing with adjective in Chinese and Vietnamese are chosen to make a comparison and to analyze the similarities and differences in collocation, location, modification, and so on.The third chapter, from the aspects of syntax, semantic, and pragmatic, carries out a comparison, which focuses on vivid expressions, between both of them. It can be found that there are similarities as well as differences between them in the method of repeat.The fourth chapter turns to denote the method of BA in Chinese and AB in Vietnamese. By analyzing some particular linguistic phenomenon, the study investigates the result of changes during the development of a language.The fifth Chapter aims at finding some rules of conversion between Chinese and Vietnamese. Some typical example sentences, such as The Reduplicated Expressions of Modern Chinese is the Explanation of Adjective, which was edited by Wang Guozhang in1996(Beijing:Commercial Press), some common literature and repeat adjectives in Chinese teaching material of bachelor degree, are chosen to unveil the vivid expressions of translating Chinese degrees of adjectives into Vietnamese by using intertranslation. I hope that what have been presented in my research will be much significant to those Vietnamese who are studying Chinese and Vietnamese as well.The sixth chapter, the research analyze some mistakes which are made by Vietnamese students when using degrees of adjectives. By analyzing questionnaires, I found the some causes of these mistakes. First of all, the teaching materials of Vietnam Hue University of Foreign Languages, cannot fully meet the needs of studying Chinese for Vietnamese students. Then, Vietnam’s education of Chinese hasn’t realized these questions. And some other reasons, for Chinese is complicated in this respect, there exists negative transfer of one’s mother tongue as well. The sixth chapter will conclude what have been discussed above and bring out some relevant suggests.The last part of this paper winds up the discussion, summarizing the researching process, and pointing out the main innovative points and conclusions as well as the lessons of the research and the outstanding points to be further investigated in the future research.
