A Study Of Seeking Zhen Wenzhuo’s Lifetime Stories And Innermost Being

Zheng Wenzhuo was one of the Four Masters of Late Qing Dynasty. The main concern of the academic studies on him focused on the perspective of his Ci-Poems and theories. But the research for his lifetime stories and innermost being was taken attention far less, mainly because of the overlook and disuse on other documents of him. This study is approached from several directions: his literary poetry, letters, calligraphy inscriptions, library’s collection of his manuscript books and other sorts of draft.Chapter One mainly inspects three undecided problems of Zheng Wenzhuo’s lifetime. By exploring the documents and the interpretation of new evidence, the thesis try to make progressive analysis and discussion in order to clarify his mentality on his life and experience. In Chapter Two, we set his nine times stories in the imperial examinations as the theme. Through the period division and his poetry, we sequentially parse his emotions and thoughts. In Chapter Three, we rely on the character written by his friends and himself to briefly summarize his significant psychological factors when he devoted to his career-life in Jiangnan, such as the veiw of the adies and staff, the spiritual adoration and the complex with Jiangnan regions. Then Chapter Four, as the focus of this paper, combining literature anecdotes and text interpretation, trace Zheng Wenzhuo’s political ideas. In the aspect of literature, we focus on some previously neglected poetry and draft. In terms of documents, we do the interpretation and content research. Finally, in Chapter Five, based on large number of literature materials, calligraphy inscriptions and draft which appear in auctions, we give the detailed commentary on his living situation and intentions in Republic Period.Zheng Wenzhuo’s minds is the representative epitome of traditional scribes’ psychology in Modern China society. But it also presents a lot of uniqueness. This paper refers to seeking his lifetime stories and innermost being not only in order to do a study on literature, but also to find the deeper ideology.
