Urbanization And Mechanism Of China:a Government Behavior Derspective

The Thesis centers on the process> problems and mechanism of urbanization in China from a government behavior perspective.The research includes six following aspects. Firstly the relationship of urbanization and government behavior is analysized based on the urbanization theory and government theory. Government is one of the three driving actors during urbanization process, the other two are enterprise and individual. It is argued that actors and their behavior under certain institutional arrangement is the basic mechanism of urbanization.Secondly,a research frame of China urbanization from government behavior perspective is established. In China, the government is playing a vital role in the economic and social life,so is in the urbanization process. The central government’s political and economic arrangements affect the behavior of the local government,enterprises and individual, the result is that urbanization of China is characterized with Chinese style.Thirdly, influence of central government on unbanization in China was discussed. Series of institutional arrangement by the central government of China results in irregular process of China urbanization.Fourthly,the regional difference of urbanization on the province scale is researched.The local government competes each other on the FDI etal fiercely for their economic and political returns.Fifthly,an empirical study is carried on in the case of YRD.YRD is the more developed region in China both in economic and urbanization performance.Through the process,the central and local government do much work.Sixly,urban problems in China is discussed and it is argued urban problems in China are institutional.There are nine chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is the induction of study. The second chapter reviewed relevant theories and literatures on China urbanization study abroad and home. The third chapter and fourth chapter establish the research framework of China urbanization from a government perspective.In the fifth chapter,throuth an empirical study,the effects of central government’s behavior on urbanization are studied.The sixth and seventh chapter focus on the regional differences of urbanization on province scale and YRD region. The eighth chapter centered on the problems and strategies of China urbanization. The ninth chapter summarizes the conclusion of the thesis.There are at least three innovations in this research.First,the thesis studies the urbanization of China from government perspective,which is often ignored.Second,the thesis establishes a research framework based on the main actors of urbanization incluing government, enterprises and individuals.Third,urbanization strategy is discussed from the institutional level.
