In recent years, we have implemented lots of policies to support animal husbandry. It is very useful for the farmers to protect their interests and to improve their initiative for breeding. It is also playing an important role in ensuring the supply of animal products. As a big livestock-producing country, the per capita livestock production in our country is still far behind the level of developed countries. But the mode of economic development for animal husbandry is still extensive. Some questions such as lack of standardization producing and short of animal variety hindered the development of the llivestock industry. With the development of industrialization and urbanization, the llivestock industry’s further development faces more resources and environmental constraints. The trade freedom of agricultural products make the market risk higher. It is very urgent for animal husbandry to face the structural adjustment and the global industrial upgrading. In consequence, it is of remarkable significance to implement subsidies to support the sustainable development of animal husbandry.By using the comparative analysis method, statistical analysis method, econometric analysis method, the paper firstly describes and summarizes the support policies of animal husbandry.Secondly, the paper measures and evaluates the support level and structure of the policies by using the OECD methosology.Thirdly, the paper analyze the effect of the policy. The anlysis indicates that the financial support have enormous implications on farmer’s income increasing by statistical data. The paper also use the data from interviewee to evaluate the impact of the current subsidies. The study has done some innovative work in the research content and some methods applications. It is not only useful for evaluating the impact of the policies, but also providing advice for government policy formulation. In this paper, the main conclusions are:(1) The total support of China’s animal husbandry grew rapidly and support measures for producers occupies a larger proportion. There are great differences between the different livestock products’ support level.(2) The financial support has obvious positive influence on farmers’income. From the questionnaire survey, we can draw the conclusion that the farmers know the support policies year by year and more and more farmers get the support from the government, who knew the standards for the policy and gave high praise for the policy. The cadres thought that the current various support measures did good to the long-term development of animal husbandry. But the overall support policy is still relatively low, at the same time the cost of some policy execution is higher. There are also some of the more prominent problems, such as the current number of animal husbandry and subsidies for growing superior varieties policy is too little, the low level of individual breeds subsidies; Standardized scale of livestock and poultry breeding policy coverage is too small. The ecological protection has limitation for production of sheep meat and beef.(3) This paper summarize general experience and discipline of the support policies of animal husbandry in developmented countries. We found all developed country have taken market price support policy.Their target of the support policies is clear. In order to ensure the supply of animal products and to increase farmers’ income, we suggest to explore the support-price system for important livestock product, such as pork, beef, sheep meat and wool. We also suggested to make current policies improvement, such as strengthening technology popularization, giving farmers more training, improving the subsidies of grazing prohibition or grassland ecological protection.
