Study On Suburban Pig Industry Development

Suburban pig breeding industry is the regional animal husbandry developed in the background of "vegetable basket project". Its existence and development plays an important role in meat consumption for urban residents. However, with the gradual improvement of the market economy, pig products supply situation in the urban area has also undergone great changes. Main producing provinces began to replace the suburban pig breeding industry as the major source of supply in urban areas. Conflict between urban development and suburban pig breeding industry has become increasingly prominent, embodied in farming difficult site constraints and environmental governance aspects. Government intervention also became more and more. The "Forbidden Pigs" incidents in some cities sparked widespread social concerns. In the context of rapid urbanization, facing with the dual constraints of the natural environment and social environment, suburban pig breeding industry development pattern and structural adjustments become serious problems. This paper studies the development of suburban pig breeding industry, and has important theoretical value and practical significance.With pig breeding industry in Beijing as the research object, this paper specifically studied the following parts. First, the course and the current development of suburban pig farming were summarized, further analysis was done to explore the development stage of urbanization, and urbanization competitive basic research suburban pig breeding industry in the mechanism of the suburbs as a pig breeding industry; second, changes in the size structure suburban pig breeding industry was described, cost-benefit of different herd sizes and production efficiency were analyzed to explore the suburban scale restructuring hog problem on this basis; third, according to the causes of environmental problems suburbs theoretical analysis of the pig breeding industry, and survey data collected from the outskirts of Beijing farm household, the status of environmental governance and environmental governance factors willingness of household farms were analyzed, and case studies and problems of environmental governance behavior of typical pig farm households were also analyzed; Finally, on the basis of the specific analysis and evaluation of Beijing suburb hog production and supply, the supply and demand environment system, environmental governance structure and scale of policy intervention for the pig products and supply were analyzed.The main conclusions of this paper are:(1) Beijing suburban pig breeding industry development stage is obviously consisted with the development stage of urbanization;(2) urbanization has an important impact on Beijing suburban pig breeding industry in the aspect of competitive advantage, production, layout and rearing methods;(3) Large scale pig farm is the main body of Beijing suburban pig breeding industry, medium-scale pig possesses relatively cost-advantage compared with the large-scale ones, but the two rearing methods both do not possess cost advantages compared with the surrounding provinces, both in terms of productivity and negative growth state;(4) Beijing suburban pig farm households environmental governance was effected by feeding behavior and willingness to scale, government regulation, the scale of farming, the land consumptive constraints and other factors;(5) Supporting the construction of the large scale pig farm is a policy to protect Beijing pork self-sufficiency rate target, which is the basic supply and demand under equilibrium conditions, and pig products supply market-oriented system is inconsistent;(6) Beijing suburban pig breeding industry environmental governance have achieved some results throught the project, but the comprehensive and effective governace is still a long way to go.Features of this paper and possible innovations are:(1) Based on the background of Beijing urbanization, this paper analyzes the adjustment policy of the suburban pig breeding industry from the aspects of pig products supply, scale structure, environment governace, and provides a new idea for establishing the suburban pig breeding industry coordinated with the city development;(2) Focused on the contrast between suburban areas and the main agricultural areas, this paper analyzes the scaling of the suburban pig breeding industry and provides a more comprehensive judgment for the appropriate scale of operation;(3) Combined the statistics and econometric analysis based on the questionnaire with the case analsis based on the typical interview, this paper analyzes the environmental governance of the pig farm more intensively.
