This paper presents a novel simple isolator,in which the unsaturated polyester fiber reinforcement engineering plastic sheet is used to replace steel sheet within rubber bearing to produce lightweight,cost-effective isolator for application to rural building.The main research work based on the simple isolator is carried out as following:(1)Based on the stiffness theory of traditional isolators,this paper compared the theoretical stiffness and the measured stiffness of the simple isolator.The formula of the vertical limit pressure of simple isolator is modified.The displacement formula of the warping deformation under horizontal limit shear of the isolator is deduced.(2)This paper developed a variety of models of the simple isolator,the square simple isolator and the ratio of length to width is 2:1 of the rectangular isolator have been designed and manufactured.The G4 rubber layer or high damping G6 rubber layer is used to the rubber sheet in it.Performance tests are systematically carried out to characterize the isolator in terms of mechanic behavior(e.g.,compression,shear,and their relationship),temperature dependence,frequency dependence,dynamic properties(e.g.,damping),and ultimate states.Experimental results show that the proposed the square and the rectangular simple isolators have stability mechanical properties and high damping characteristics,and the mechanical properties of the G6 rubber layer isolator is better than the G4 rubber layer isolator.(3)A 3-D solid finite element model of the simple isolation bearing is established within the environment of ABAQUS.The stress state of inner reinforced layer and inner rubber layer is comparatively analyzed under the action of pressure and shear.Relationship between mechanic behavior of the simple isolator and the thickness of seal plate is discussed.The influence of the thickness ratio of plate layer and rubber layer on the stress state of inner reinforced layer and inner rubber layer is revealed.(4)A set of practical design method and design process based on the response spectrum have been proposed,which is determined by the factors of structure type(dominated by masonry structure),number of layers,site category,and fortification intensity.The method proposed above will make this novel simple isolator used widely in rural buildings to reduce seismic responses.(5)A set of connection construction scheme,limit measures and construction technology are also developed.This simple isolation technology provides scientific and technological support for popularizing seismic isolation technology in underdeveloped rural area,which is of theoretical and practical significances.
