The rural area accounts for more than90%of our land area, and the ruralpopulation accounts for more than70%of the national total population. Restricted bythe social and economic development level, rural buildings are low-cost, and mostlynot referred to anti-Seismic design. Once the earthquake appears, most of the housesin rural areas will collapse, and there will be serious casualties."A minor earthquakecausing a disaster" and " A minor earthquake causing a major catastrophe" havebecome the significant characteristics of earthquake disasters in rural areas. Thetraditional isolation technology has been confirmed to have amazing effect byavoiding the earthquake damage during past earthquake experiences. However, thetraditional steel-reinforced isolator is heavy, craft complex and expensive, so it isdifficult to popularize and apply it in rural areas.This paper presents a new type of simple isolation device—fiber-reinforcedplastics plate isolation bearing. It uses the unsaturated polyester resin glass-fiber-reinforced plastics plate instead of the steel plate in the traditional steel-reinforcedisolator. It has some significant advantages, such as good performance of isolation,simple production process, low-cost, lightweight, Easy construction and installation.So it can be popularized and applied in low-cost rural buildings and it will be aneffective way to improve the seismic performance of the rural buildings. Focusing onthe new type of simple isolation bearing, this paper has completed the followingresearch works:(1) Research and development of the new simple isolation bearing. Tensile andbending performance tests of the fiber-reinforced plastics plates are carried out tochoose the best fiber-reinforced plastics plates with the advantages of stable chemicalproperties、low-cost、reliable mechanical properties. The new type of simple isolationbearing is made by using the fiber-reinforced plastics plate instead of the steel plate inthe traditional steel-reinforced isolator.(2) Test of the simple isolation bearing is presented, such as its compressioncharacteristics, shear properties, compression and shear properties of relevance,ultimate mechanical properties, and damping properties. On the base of thesemechanical tests, the performance bound is founded, and the reasonable scopes ofdesign of the surface pressure and horizontal shear displacement of the simpleisolation bearing are presented.(3) Finite element simulation analysis of the simple isolation bearing. A3-Dsolid finite element modal of the simple isolation bearing is established by ABAQUS.The stress station of inner reinforced layer and inner rubber layer is comparativelyanalyzed under the action of pressure and shear. Relationship between Horizontalstiffness of the bearing and the elastic modulus of the fiber-reinforced-plastic plate isdiscussed. The influence of elastic modulus of inner reinforced layers and boundaryconstraints on the stress station of inner reinforced layer and inner rubber layer isrevealed. Based on these, this paper introduces the horizontal bearing mechanism ofthe simple isolation bearing, and reveals the influence of warpage on stress station of the inner reinforced layer and inner rubber layer.(4) The original structure model、the strengthened structure model and theisolated structure model of the typical structure of Hainan rural building are tested atthe shaking table of the1/4scale model. Through comparative analysis of the seismicresponse characteristics of the original structure model、the strengthened structuremodel and the isolated structure model under different earthquake actions, seismicperformances of the original structure model and the strengthened structure model arerevealed. The isolation effect of the masonry structure built in simple isolationbearings is evaluated.(5)3-D nonlinear finite element dynamic models of the original structure model、the strengthened structure model and the isolated structure model are established byABAQUS. Elastic-plastic seismic responses of them are analyzed, and compared withexperimental results. Through comparative analysis of development of cracks in theoriginal structure model、the strengthened structure model and the isolated structuremodel, the isolation effect of the simple isolation bearing is confirmed, and providestheoretical supports for the engineering application of this technology.(6) The simple isolation bearing is applied to some rural seismic demonstrationproject in the intensive earthquake zone. Take seismic isolation design for the project,and provide a new type of isolation-connection structural measure and constructiontechnology for the low-rise rural buildings based on the simple isolation bearing.
