Public transit information sharing and resource integration could be improved by the construction of Intelligent Transportation System(ITS)to promote the level of services and efficiency of public transit system.Travelers' departure time and travel mode choices could be guided by providing public transit information to improve urban public traffic attraction and to reduce the urban traffic congestion.Previous studies in China focus on travelers' travel behavior by private car under travel information, and less study explains travelers',especially bus riders',travel choices after accessing to multiple public transit information,so studying on travelers' choice behavior under public transit information is necessary. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the travel choice behavior of travelers under multiple public transit information,to explore the relationships between travelers'attitudes on using public transit information and their willingness of public transit travel choices, and to propose the release strategies of public transit information by analyzing the travelers'demand characteristics of public transit information and modelling travelers' departure time and mode choices, and the results could be as the theoretical basis and technical support for development of public transit information service. It is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC,51178109)and the State Key Program of National Natural Science of China(51338003).Travelers' commuting travel behavior under public transit information is studied and the impact of travelers' perceived cost of trips on travel behavior is also discussed. The main contents are as follows:First, public transit information is classified by properties of information, time when travelers getting information and timeliness and stability of information.Travelers' cognitive processes of public transit information are discussed. The qualitative analysis of public transit information attributes influencing on travelers' choice behavior and public transit information effects on travelers and the public system is discussed. The stated preference(SP)survey of travelers'departure time and mode choice behavior under public transit information is design based on the analysis of public transit information demands, survey of travelers' subjective attitudes and willingness of travel choices designed as well, and data obtained from the survey are discussed.Based on the demands of public transit information by demands web survey bus real-time information, transit route and distance, bus stops information and transit transfer information, the SP survey of travelers' departure time and mode choice behavior under public transit information is designed with four scenario factors, including travel distance, bus location information, road congestion information and transit transfer information. The analysis of data obtained by the SP survey shows that travelers' choice behavior can be affected by public transit information, and travelers'attitudes and willingness also have differences.Second, based on the early studies, travelers' arrival time inconsistent with expectation arrival time is considered,so mixed logit model is developed with schedule delay early(SDE)and schedule delay late(SDL)as influencing factors together with other factors to analyze bus riders' commuting choice of departure time under the impact of transit travel information. The result shows that SDE's influence on travelers' departure time is significant, different from SDL's.Travel distance, road congestion information and transit transfer information influence travelers' departure time choices significantly, and bus location information's influence is not significant.Travelers' education, income and times of taking the bus per week are the main influence factors of travelers' departure time choice behavior.Third, people's mode choice under the influence of transit travel information is discussed by using the multinomial logit model, and considering the heterogeneity of travelers' public transit change choice behavior, discrete choice models are developed. The results show that travelers' gender, occupation, education, income, number of vehicles, times of riding bus, waiting time, accepted waiting time and times of getting public transit information are significant factors of travelers'mode choice behavior under public transit information.Travelers' public transit change choice is also analyzed by using the multinomial logit model and the mixed logit model, and it uses neural networks to compare the two logit model. The result shows that travelers prefer to choose public transit with public transit information, and the mixed logit can analyze bus riders' mode change better.Fourth, based on the studies above, perceived cost under transit travel information is given according to information's impact on people's travel choices.Nested logit models with departure time as upper class and mode choice as upper class are built separately to analyze bus riders' travel behaviors. The result shows that perceived cost influences on travelers' travel choices significantly, and travelers' travel choice behavior follows "departure time choice first, then mode choice".Fifth, based on the travelers' subjective attitudes preference on using public transit information and travel choice, external factors affecting on travelers' attitudes of using public transit information is analyzed from the point of view of travelers' demands, and it is found that female and higher income travelers have a higher degree of public transit information demands, and non-bicycle travelers require public transit information more reliable, while younger and work-need-commuting travelers require public transit information more independence, and overall, travelers prefer to access to public transit information at any time, including after travel plan changed,to confirm departure time, and also expect to customize the information service by the goal of shortest travel time.Analysis of willingness of travel choice based on the travelers' subjective attitudes preference indicates that perception towards public transit information has the biggest impact on willingness to using public transit, while reliability and accessibility of public transit information have significant positive effects on traveler's perception towards public transit information, with reliability the biggest impact. Finally, built on summarizing the results of previous research, public transit information distribution strategies are discussed.Transit transfer information is regarded as the priority among public transit information in this dissertation because of its more influence on departure time choice and mode choice significantly;meanwhile, providing public transit information to travelers who have short distance may easily change their departure time choices, and providing public transit information to travelers who have long distance can change their travel mode choices.Additionally, travelers belonging to different sub-markets of using public transit information are determined by market segmentation, and policies that serve different sub-market are proposed to improve public transit information service. The study provides references for further study on travelers' choice behavior under multiple traffic information. Conclusions could be as a theoretical basis on developing public transit information service and providing transit travel information for people.
