Modern Psychology Research On Human Basic Psychological Needs

The current study explored the satisfaction process and inner mechanism of basic human psychological needs from theoretical research and practical experience. In theoretical section, by the perspective of generalized problem solving, two main psychological needs theories------self-determination theory and dual process model were analyed and evaluated in order to find out fundamental and operable problems and limitations in related theoretical research and empirical research. At the same time, trying to solve them by integrating results and methods of previous studys such as organic dialectical metatheory of self-determination theory thought.Based on self-determination theory and dual process model, this study proposed the following hypothesis:basic psychological needs unsatisfaction would produce the corresponding motivations and behaviors to pursue the needs to satisfy. However, the effectiveness behavior depends on the other needs'satisfaction. And the actions of pursuing are domain specific, rather than domain universality. The above assumptions were discussed in the theory section of this study.Social network sets as a new medium which have changed the way of interpersonal communication. And it is very important to explore the basic psychological needs satisfaction process in this new medium. The unsatisfaction of related need can produce the corresponding motive and behavior to pursue the satisfaction. In social network sets, this kind of behavior could performance to interact with their online friends. And the interaction person and the interaction way would influence effectiveness actions of psychology needs satisfaction actions.In practice section, the study provides three researches to test and verify the hypothesis above:(1) Qualitative research reveals there are three basic psychological needs for modern Chinese youth, There are interactions among the three basic psychological needs;(2) Intimacy is an important way to obtain related need,"RenYuan" is a social competence need for Chinese youth;(3) Chinese youth make a point of needs for autonomy; Study two and study three focus an unsatisfied need: related need. Study two found that the communicating with more intimate friends had promoting effect on related need, and communicating with acquaintances and common friends had passive effect on related need; Study three found mediation affection between unsatisfied related need and satisfied related need, and the mediation variable was communication way. When people failed to obtain related needs, they tend to choose the passive way to interact with online friends while only active way would work. Study three found mediation affection between unsatisfied related need and communication, the mediation variable was competence need. When related needs were not satisfied, individuals experienced less competence and tend to choose the passive way to communicate with online friends.
