On the basis of the basic psychological needs theory, the study investigats the relationship between the satisfaction of high school students'basic psychological needs and their sense of happiness. It is approached from the two research trends of well-being(subjective well-being and psychological well-being) and different levels (the trait level and day level). With a sample of 748 high school students, the first study uses the questionaire survey method and investigats the relationship between the satisfaction of high school students'basic psychological needs and their sense of happiness (including subjective well-being and psychological well-being) from the trait level. Through the between-subject analyses, it shows that the satisfaction of relatedness, competence, autonomy has a significantly positive correlation with the subjective well-being and psychological well-being. Through the multiple regression analysis, it is confirmed that the three basic psychological needs are reliable predictors of psychological well-bing and every factor of subjective well-being. If the satisfaction of a person's three basic psychological needs is high, his sense of happiness will be correspondingly high and vice versa. The second study uses the diary study, with 51 students being tested on a consecutive 12-day follow up investigation. It investigates the relationship between the satisfaction of the three basic needs, which is gained from a day's activities, and indicators of that day's happiness, including positive affect, negative affect, vitality, and physical symptoms. It turns out that The satisfaction of daily basic psychologyical needs has significant positive correlation with that day's positive affect and vitality;has significant negative correlation with the negative affect and symptoms.
