The Research On Ecological Attribute Of Qiang Embroidery Culture And Its Contemporary Values

The Qiang embroidery widely spreads in areas inhabited by Qiang people as a handcraft,which exhibits intelligence and wisdom of Qiang ethnic women.Patterns of the embroidery seemed as an important medium of recording real life and ethnic emotions of Qiang people because they are directly symbolically indicative.Qiang embroidery was enlisted into the first ‘Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Name List' of Sichuan province as early as March 2007.In the next June,it was,fortunately,selected into the second ‘National Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Name List'.As an embodiment of Qiang culture,Qiang embroidery has been affected in ways of its inheritance and development by civil and social development.For instance,social organization,economic structure,scientific-technological conditions and other realistic environmental changes turned to internal factors affecting the evolvement of forms and craft of Qiang embroidery.Researches on Qiang embroidery should systematically understand and comprehend the holistic background of the development and derivatization of Qiang embroidery instead of being independent from its co-existing folk culture and folk life.Therefore,this paper use “Cultural Ecology” which advanced by Julian Steward for reference.The new theory “Cultural Ecology of Qiang Embroidery” covers the technical characteristics and the adaption with cultural and life changes of Qiang embroidery craft.It is a theoretical improvement,from material forms up to values and cultural belongingness,encompassing the achievements and enlightenment of interdisciplinary subjects such as the art,anthropology,sociology and so forth.Under the times theme of “contemporary China”,the popular situation of unitary pattern and mass culture for dominant culture has a growing influence for the life mode choosing.Secular morality and ethical ideas as well as value measures are on the changing way,the traditional handicraft from producing to practicing is hard to meet the modern life mode.How to coordinate and balance the culture ecology of handcrafts become the significant part to keep the “live transmission” of these handcrafts.However,People's pursuit for materials and happiness is an important factor for driving social development.The science and technology,economy,social organization that related to people's life will develop towards the appropriate direction of life.The safeguarding of Qiang embroidery culture ecology is difficult to be achieved through the decay of material conditions and the modern lifestyle is more suited to the current people's survival and development.Only in the era of highly developed economies will be the development orientation of “counter-urbanization”.Therefore,the safeguarding of Qiang embroidery culture ecology should be guided from the sense of spiritual and achieve the transition from the concept of “The beauty of its beauty” to “Showing appreciation for beauty of other cultures”.And the return of the value of traditional context can finally guide the formation of “cultural consciousness” to realize the extension of independent art character of Qiang embroidery,and promote its living condition.
