Start with the ontology of animation, this dissertation is an attempt at artistic approach to focus on the possibility of shaping national image and constructing cultural space. As an artistic form, animation represents not only expression but also communication. In an era where visual culture dominants, animation, based on its exaggerative and metabolic artistic style, creates the most intuitive and prompt visual shock. This dissertation is not restricted to probe into the artistic nature or the cultural transmission advantage that animation contains while compared with other artistic forms, but to demonstrate its function on cultural communication as a carrier. Its theoretical significance spreads well beyond the deep-rooted misreading as infantilism. The real motivation, however,is to perceive it as an effective way to remold the national image. This dissertation aims to offer an answer to the trend of the times. With the intensifying confluence of globalization, visual culture and new media, the international geographical boundaries become increasingly fuzzy, soft power, instead of hard power, gradually dominants the arena of rivalry.Hence, the shape of national image becomes significantly important. As it can not only enhance the national cohesiveness but also improve the international competitive advantage.China's national image as an economic giant has already been established, while its image as a cultural magnate has not yet been formed.China is neither skilled at cultural communication nor at cultural exports, though she possesses abundant cultural resources. To some extent, the lag of transmissibility solidifies the deformed image of China among westerners and causes the rampant "China threat".No wonder,a flood of foreign media swoop in,the so-called "Korean crush","American crush" and"Japanese crush" take turns to perform on the stage. This dissertation,as a response to the era,may not rapidly and dramatically change China's image, but it at least offers possibility to remold it,to restore cultural self-confidence and to intensify national cohesion.
