National Image is the holistic appraisal and identification of a sovereign country, on its politics, economy, culture, values and many other aspects from both internal and external people. It is also an exhibition of the nation and a reflection of public voices from the international environment. Most importantly, it is an essential part of a country's soft powers. Building up and spreading out a positive national image is of huge significance, and is the key to raising the comprehensive influence and obtain say on international matters in the global society.Cinematography is a key component of a country's cultural industry, and is an important vehicle for communicating to the external people. Cinema and television products are commercial, entertaining and cultural, and also a crucial way of introducing the life style, ideology and values on politics and cultures'understanding of a country, a carrier of broadcasting the country image. Spreading out a positive country image is a long-standing historical mission for all forms of cultures and arts including the cinematography.The United States has always placed a focus on the shaping and spreading its national image though war topic films and television works. Hollywood, the "dream factory" has produced many films and television products on spreading out a positive country image, and it imperceptibly affected and subtly permeated the values, ideology and politics concept of many countries and regions. American war topic films and television works, has contained both entertainment and commerciality, and also plays an effective role in spreading the country image for political purposes.The article has researched on the communication of the modern cinematography with military elements from the US in five chapters. The first chapter focused on the characteristics of national image, the significance of spreading it, and the influence cinematic products exerted in the spreading. The second chapter exhibited and analyzed the characteristics of cinema products in spreading the national image for different phases of the US history. The third chapter focuses on the analysis of strategies and conceptual basis on the national image spreading. The fourth chapter focuses on the analysis of the impact from different cinema products with US military elements. The last chapter summarizes the enlightenment on relevant industries in China from the experience of US. Bibliographic analysis method, cross-curricular research method, case study analysis method and comparison analysis method have been applied in this article.
