The causative category is one of the original grammatical markings in Sino-Tibetan languages,whereas it represent different formal realization in modern Tibeto-Burman languages due to the divergence and historical change of Sino-Tibetan.Some Tibeto-Burman languages still remain dominantly morphological causative marking(i.e.prefix or inflection),and some languages lost the original morphological marking,while some use both morphological causative marking and analytic causative marking.This dissertation gives a typological and historical perspective on the causative category of Tibeto-Burman in terms of the selected data of twenty Tibeto-Burman languages on the one hand,discusses the different formal types of the causative and explores the historical development of the causative and the other.The thesis comprise 6 sections,the first section introduces the reason why I choose the causative of Tibeto-Burman,the previous research on this topic,data sources and methodology.The second section gives a definition of the causative,and the third section provide the realization of the original morphological causative marking in modern Tibeto-Burman languages in terms of the selected data.The forth section describes the various analytic causative and the relationship of them in Tibeto-Burman.The fifth section explores the relationship between morphological causative and analytic causative and their tendency.The last section is a short concluding remarking,where I generalize the synchronic characteristics of the causative in Tibeto-Burman.
