This dissertation focuses on the instruments and musical dances of the Silk Road in the Han and Tang Dynasties,investigating their historical sources and specific forms.Through researching the combination forms and arrangements of instruments and musical dances from the Western Regions and secular instruments and dances in China,moreover,it reveals the historical feature and transitional trail of the combination between music from the Western Regions and secular music in China in different periods,then mainly discusses the way China accepted exotic musical cultures.Research in this dissertation mainly bases on historical musicology.On the basis of music history and bibliography,it also combines the methods of iconography and ethnomusicology,explaining the relevant questions through the double tests of documentary sources and image documents.This dissertation contains introduction and five chapters.Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 synthetically investigate the instruments and dances from India,West Asia,Central Asia and other Western Regions,which came to China through the Silk Road,as well as analysis and discuss the issues that how China accepted the music cultures from these regions and combined these exotic musical cultures;Chapter3 and Chapter4 examine the arrangements of orchestras and dances in historical documents and grotto frescos during different periods,revealing the inherent transitional patterns and time features,as well as demonstrating the combination process between instruments and musical dances from the Western Regions and secular instruments and dances in China through historical context;Chapter 5 thoroughly discusses the way China accepted exotic musical cultures,especially analyzing and demonstrating the combination trail between music from the Western Regions and secular music in China. |
