| This article is mainly to deal with the modernization process of the Bengbu city through the period of the Republic of China.In light of modernization theory,it involves the relevant facets of modernization,such as economy?education?culture?social structure and so on,so as to explore the pattern and law in the transition from "traditionality" to "modernity".The content of the article is chiefly as follow:The first chapter introduces the basis of the modernization of Bengbu,namely,the historical evolution?geographical feature and the structure of the traditional society.City is product of history,which came into being long before the urbanization movement in form of ancient city.Though the ancient city and the modern city have different connotation,the latter is bred in the context of the former,which makes it essential to get a sound outlook of the environment in term of the Bengbu city.According the theory of modernization,this part constitutes the"warm-up" phase.The chapters from two to six respectively laborates on the concrete transitional process in fields of economy?education?culture?social structure and so on.The movement of modernization is a course of reshapement on civilivation structure in the process of historical vicissitude of a country or region.In term of the aspects,it involves the overall and comprehensive transformation in the facets of economy?education?culture?social structure.This article explores the emergence and development in terms of industry?commerce?transportation?education and demography,while making a point of argument based on historical materials.Furthermore,the widespread phenomenon of "co-existence" is initially discussed in the article.On the other hand,the role of transportation is to be emphasized.As is called“a city pulled out by the train",the powerful function of adsorption of railway not only brought about the city,but also provided constant motivation for Bengbu.The railway not only forged a economic structure distinctive of transportation feature,but also infiltrated into the daily life of civil activities.The impact of railway was subtle and imperceptible,while the effect of communication turned out so drastic and boisterous,which determined the mode of " radical development"of Bengbu modernization.After all,we should take note that the effect of railway is limited and conditioned.As far as Bengbu is concerned,the traffical advantage is noly the necessary condition,far from the sufficient condition.If the traffic advantage could not be transformed into market advantage properly,the other facets of modernization will lose their grounds.In fact,the development trend of industry?commerce?education and culture of Bengbu inevitably went with a high take-off and a declining rear,which can put blame not noly on the disruption of warfare,but the lop-sided industrial structure.Conversely,the wane of Bengbu in the following years verified this rule,presently,the traffical advantage still existed,but the economical status has declined sharply,which deserves our serious reflection.Chapter seven summerizes the law and lesson of modernization of Bengbu.In light of the above-mentioned description on the concrete historical course in every specific fields of Bengbu city,we take conclusion of the features and regularities of the modernization of the city of Bengbu.By comparison with the cities of Anqing?Wuhu and Hefei,experience and lessons are drawn out.Furturemore,we can draw up the specified route of Bengbu throughout the period,which provides a valuable refenrence to the present and future cities,in order to avoid all kinds of "urban complications",and find a optimal mode for city development. |
