The thesis is to reshow and explain the history of the early period (1896-1927) of Hangzhou's City Modernization.The position of Hangzhou's city in the country developed a trajectory from rising unceasingly to decreasing by degrees from Ancient until the beginning of the twenty centuries.Compared with Shanghai and Ningbo,opening to the outside world,the city appears falling behind and dismal.Afterwards "the Treaty of Shimonoseki",four cities such as Hangzhou and Suzhou is refuted for trading port.Although the treaty is the symbol of failure and humiliation, but it mean the chance of developping quickly to Hangzhou's city.Certainly, the Concession is located in the area of Gong Chen bridge,and be far away from urban area So the effect of the Concession on Hangzhou's city can not be compared with it on Shanghai With the foreigner and the goods flooding in directly, Hangzhou's people makes a vigorous contend to redeem economic rights From this,the Hangzhou's city has started the endless journey of being modernized. Exactly as Israel scholar Aisensitade's word:"As far as the view of history, modernization is the process of society,economy political system changing to modern type".Hangzhou's city modernization embodies in the enormous changes of political system,economical, education and culture, municipal administration facilities,society custom.The thesis is to analyse mainly from several development aspects such as political,economical,culture,municipal administration.The political modernization of Hangzhou's City is embodied mainly in the enormous change of Hangzhou's city political system——A March from autocracy to democracy, despite of circuitous "way".The great progress is the change of Administration.The economical modernization of Hangzhou's City is embodied mainly in the process of foundation of the industry system. The modernization of Hangzhou's city is lead by commercial,not by industry.The modernization of Hangzhou's education and culture started with the field of newspaper and periodical. "Firing people's wisdom " is the time subject,how "to fires people's wisdom ", has nothing but education (includeing newspaper and periodical).In the period of thirty years, Hangzhou's education has adjusted in many aspects such as education organization,content of courses,education teachers.The newspaper and periodical in Hangzhou's city has been experiencing a prosperous development process from nonexistence to pass into existence.The modernization of the municipal administration in Hangzhou's city means the great changes.With 20 centuries beginning,the municipal administration facilities has had earthshaking changes in Hangzhou's city.
