Processing Mechanism And Development Characteristics Of Facial Expression And Face Gender Information Interaction

There are much of benefits to discuss the processing characteristics of the interaction between facial expressions and facial sex,such as clarifying the theory debates of facial expressions and facial sex,uncover the mechanism of time and space when the interaction happens,and then improve the existing cognitive facial mode.The present study probed the processing characteristics of the interaction between facial expressions and facial sex with four researches(including seven experiments)by ERP techniques.The first research discussed the processing characteristics of the interaction when the strength of facial expressions and sex were similar(experiment 1).The second and third researches investigated whether the interaction mode would change along with the change of facial expressions or sex strength(experiment 2,3)and facial expression types(from anger/happiness to anger/sadness)(experiment 4).The fourth research focused on the change rules the interaction on different age stages of subjects(experiment 5-7).There were several results of the four researches:Firstly,there are different modes of the interaction between facial expression and facial sex.The influence of facial expression on facial sex was not affected by intensity of information and expression types,nevertheless,the influence of facial sex on facial expression was affected by information strength.When the information strength of sex was stronger than expression,facial sex would not impact the identification of facial expression.Secondly,when facial expression types were happiness/anger,the impact of facial expression on facial sex identification happened during the early(P1),mid(EPN)and late stage(LPC)of Perception Processing.However,Face gender impact facial recognition has only occurred in the early stages(N170)of Face Processing.Thirdly,When sex information intensity lower than facial expression,Expression affect face gender recognition occurs in the middle stage of perceptual processing(P2/N2),and The impact of facial expression on facial sex occurs at an early stage(N170)Face Processing.Fourthly,When expression information intensity lower than facial sex,Expression affect face gender recognition occurs at an early stage(N170)Face Processing.The impact of facial sex on facial expression occurs during the early(N1),mid(P2/N2)and late stage(LPC)of Perception Processing.Fifthly,facial expression types had effect on the modes of interaction between facial expression and facial sex.When facial expression types changed to anger/sadness,the impact of facial expression on the recognition of facial sex appeared in both female and male faces.when the expression types were anger/sad,Expression affect face gender recognition occurs in the late stage of perceptual processing(LPC),The impact of facial sex on facial expression occurs during the early(N170)and late stage(LPC)of Perception Processing.Sixthly,the comparison of four age stages namely children,teenagers,college students and the old of the processing characteristics of the interaction between facial expressions and facial sex showed that except college students,the participants of other stages were salient slower in recognition of facial sex than facial expression.It was the face sex recognition advantage effect of one's own age.Seventhly,a more comprehensive effect of facial sex on the recognition of facial expression was found on teenager subjects.The recognition of the happy female face was salient faster than the happy male face.However,the interaction effect only appeared on the female face in other subjects.It was called the “return the stereotype”.
