The “Miao” In The Change Of Power

“Miao” is an appellation,which refers to a group of people and the cultural symbols these people share.It does not change,but the people and the culture symbols is not static.Therefore,in a particular time and space,it is not certain which elements represents Miao.As a result,Miao has something to do with the power.In this paper,the author chose the M village of southeastern Chongqing as the inspection point to revealing the relationship between M village and the power change,using the theory of ethnic group,social transformation and rural governance.And this study used a combination of diachronic and thematic studies and the ethnographic architecture.The author believed that Miao was an endemic classification during the period of the Republic of China.The community power provided two rules:how to became a member of Miao,and how they interacted with the local Han people.After the founding of new China,as the revolutionary discourse and national discourse entered the village one by one,the National ideology re-shaped Miao.The national identity and national identity of Miao people was stimulated.However,the socialist transformation movement for the countryside which was Planed and implemented by the power of state disrupted the complete system of the knowledge of the ethnic groups.After the reform and opening up,Miao people generally went out to work leading to more fragmentation of the objective characteristics of Miao.On the other hand,the care from the government departments and the academic system also accelerated the process of the ethnic identity of the Miao people.Nevertheless,due to the objective ability within the group was weak,the dispersion of nuclear families was making the group classification patterns to be blurred.Under the guidance of national discourse,the authoritative representative of modern knowledge and authority including the power elite in the village,the government,research institutes and the media created the legitimacy and typicality of M village to be Miao together.When the new Miao culture and symbols which was operated by the power covered the villagers' daily life,Miao appeared separation.But most of the Miao people was not able to participate in this show,and let alone benefit from it.Therefore,national discourse reflected theproperties of the broker more or less.M village could regard Miao as its flag,but authority should be concerned more about the well-being of every villager.
