The relationship between technology and social production and human life is increasingly close,moreover,the behaviors of plagiarism,thesis fraud,angling for undeserved fame are increasing rapidly,therefore the social responsibility and scientific ethics of science and technology workers has become a hot issue which has got much attention in the social public and scientific and technological circles.The institution of higher learning is an important position of personnel training,knowledge creation and culture spreading,so the social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning is particularly important.Previous studies on this issue are almost all qualitative research,and studies on the influencing factors of social responsibility performing are scarce.This study analyses the present situation,characteristics and influencing factors of social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning,and puts forward the countermeasures to strengthen social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers according to the results of the analysis.It has important significance in theory and practice.Based on the analysis of the related literatures,and on the analysis of “sci-tech being value-free theory”,“sci-tech being value-laden theory”,“sci-tech being ideology theory”,“sci-tech determinism theory” and “social constructivism theory”,this study constructs the theoretical model of social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning taking Marx and Engels' theory of responsibility and ethics of science and technology as guidance.According the theoretical model,this study develops a questionnaire on social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning which is including four parts,and then a questionnaire survey is conducted in 465 science and technology workers in eight universities of Xi'an,Shanghai,Wuhan,Harbin,Hohhot.On the basis of the questionnaire survey,this study analyses the present situation,characteristics and influencing factors of social responsibility consciousness by using the methods of regression analysis,correlation analysis and principal component factor analysis,etc.The main conclusions obtained in this study can be summarized into four aspects as follows.Firstly,the questionnaire designed according to the theoretical model has good internal consistency and construct validity,and it can be used as an effective tool to measure the status and influencing factors of social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning.The social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers can be divided into three dimensions,which are “responsibility consciousness to scientific research work”,“responsibility consciousness to scientific community”,and “responsibility consciousness to social development”.Secondly,the present situation of social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning is relatively good and positive,and they can perform the responsibility to scientific research work,the responsibility to scientific community,and the responsibility to social development actively.Generally speaking,the situation on “responsibility consciousness to scientific research work” dimension is relatively poor compared with the situation on the other two dimensions.There are great differences between different groups of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning on social responsibility consciousness.Thirdly,science and technology workers tend to agree with “sci-tech being value-laden theory”,and they incline to disagree or be uncertain with “sci-tech being value-free theory”,“sci-tech being ideology theory”,“sci-tech determinism theory” and “social constructivism theory”.The acceptance of “sci-tech being value-free theory” and the social responsibility consciousness shows significant negative correlation.The acceptance of “sci-tech being value-laden theory” and the social responsibility consciousness shows significant positive correlation.The acceptance of “sci-tech being ideology theory” and the social responsibility consciousness shows significant negative correlation.Fourthly,the social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning is influenced by individual factors and environmental factors simultaneously,and individual factors' influences are more greatly than environmental factors.Concretely speaking,academic norms acquaintance,science and technology moral cognition,supervision and management system of social responsibility performing,security mechanism of individual development and economic income have significant positive influences on “responsibility consciousness to social development”.The three factors which have the highest explanation capacity are supervision and management system of social responsibility performing,science and technology moral cognition,and academic norms acquaintance.Academic norms acquaintance,science and technology moral cognition,supervision and management system of social responsibility performing,security mechanism of individual development and economic income,social atmosphere and environment have significant positive influences on “responsibility consciousness to scientific community”,while punishment mechanism has significant negative influence.The three factors which have the highest explanation capacity are supervision and management system of social responsibility performing,science and technology moral cognition,and academic norms acquaintance.Academic norms acquaintance,science and technology moral cognition,academic reputation cherishing,security mechanism of individual development and economic income have significant positive influences on “responsibility consciousness to scientific research work”,while pressure of scientific research assessment has significant negative influence.The three factors which have the highest explanation capacity are science and technology moral cognition,academic norms acquaintance,and security mechanism of individual development and economic income.Based on the results,this study proposes some suggestions to strengthen social responsibility consciousness of science and technology workers in institutions of higher learning.(1)Improving the supervision and management system of social responsibility performing to provide powerful institutional guarantee.(2)Creating good social environment and atmosphere for scientific and technological works.(3)Perfecting training system of science and technology workers and taking science and technology worker' s individual development and growth seriously.(4)Establishing rational organizational and social disciplinary system to guarantee the social responsibility performing of science and technology workers.(5)Reforming the present scientific research assessment system and creating relaxed scientific research environment.(6)Strengthening training and education of science and technology ethics and academic principle to enhance science and technology workers' acquaintance with the academic norms.(7)Paying more attention to the material and spiritual life of science and technology workers,and safeguarding their reasonable economic income.(8)Reforming the education mode of science and technology ethics,changing from explicit mode to explicit and implicit combination mode.
