Culture plays an important role in the life of ethnic minority students in Vietnam. This is particularly the case in the education field because they are considered stand-out children of the local community and the future elites of the ethnic minorities.Under the impact of social-economic development, life condition changing, and globalization, especially to have the positive effects, there have been conflicts between integrating and conserving and promoting the ethnic cultural values. The traditional cultural values of ethnic groups are also being eroded. So,how are the levels of cultural change of ethnic minority students in boarding schools? What are the trends of changing? Due to the student cultures which is individualized within the range of school and separating from families and village communities, the study aims to research on the transformation of ethnic minority culture of students in four cultural elements: language, costume, food and social relations. The research results prove that ethnic groups in the mountainous region of Thanh Hoa have undergone a process of exchange and interaction longstanding. This process has been intensifying during the recent modernization and globalization.Cultural transformation depends on the level of cultural exchange between ethnic groups, the degree of urbanization and modernization in the region. As young people leaving their homeland to study in the city, ethnic minority students in this research are directly affected by this contact and exchange. They tend to accept new cultural values while not pay attention to preserve their ethnic cultural values.
