According to the research practice and constant reflection and summary, this article focused on cultural tourism and the urban economic study of the coordinated development and try to construct a set of effective theory and method.This paper define what is cultural tourism based on the research status at home and abroad.And according to the connotation and extension of cultural tourism, the domestic many of the national excellent tourism city, national famous historical and cultural city and the world heritage list. Contributed to the development of the definition standard of cultural tourism city, and attempted to definite the cultural tourism industry. Thus clarified the research objects of cultural tourism city; Through the property right theory, the spatial development in economic geography theory and externality theory, this article demonstrated the cultural tourism and the possibility of the coordinated development of urban economy, and analyzes the cultural tourism and the realistic foundation and realistic dilemma.Second, this article demonstrates the western city of cultural tourism and the internal mechanism of coordinated development of urban economy, samely, the interaction between tourism and the urban economy, and defines three models of that interaction.
