Research On Coupling Of Quantity, Quality And Benefit Of China's Economic Growth

China's economy has received continual increase since the policy of reform and opening was followed. The economic growth has compounded at an annual average rate of 9 percent over the past 30 years. Significant growth achievement is called the China miracle because it successfully realized large leap of China from a low-income country to a middle-income country. Regrettably, there are some latent troubles in China's quantitative economic growth, such as more serious conflict in national economic structures, economic system and ecological environment system, economic growth and distribution of social benefits. Unbalance becomes to be the normal state in industrial structure, aggregate demand structure, urban/rural structure and regional structure. Non-economic rising costs have become a bottleneck to the stable development which shows in the following aspects: the increasing gap between rich and poor deterioration, energy and resources shortage, ecological environment deterioration. These factors reflect that China's economic growth is characterized by a lack of coordination between the quality and benefit of economic growth and the quantity of economic growth. The improvement in quality and benefit of economic growth is significantly behind the expansion in quantity.This paper will research on connotation, formation mechanism and realization condition of quantity, quality and benefit in economic growth. An analytical framework consistent with quantity, quality and benefit in economic growth will be set up from the angle of system coupling. Firstly, applicability of coupling theory will be explained on analyzing the harmony and coherence of quantity, quality and benefit from the content and relationship. Secondly, general laws of coupling will be discussed systematically from the pattern, essential characteristic and evolution rule, and coupling mechanism will be discussed from aspects of coupling objective, coupling influence factors and coupling agent further. The coupling influence factors are divided into three levels of institution, elements and technology specifically. Finally, based on theoretical framework, project pursuit model and coupling measure model will be proposed to quantitatively describe and synthetically measure the index and the coupling degree of the quantity, quality and benefit of China's economic growth. Constraints which affect synergetic coupling and realization mechanisms will be carefully analyzed, and the characteristic and changing trend of quantity, quality and benefit of China's economic growth in different stage will be summarized. On the basis of the empirical results, combined with the change on coupling constraints of quantity, quality and benefit of economic growth in new normal stage, the realization mechanism, transformation path and policy orientation of the quantity, quality and benefit in China's economic growth will be proposed.According to the research of this paper, the following conclusions can be mainly achieved. Firstly, the concept of quality and benefit of economic growth is redefined by summing up and comparing several viewpoints of quality and benefit, and it should be understood from the connotation and extension. The connotation of quality of economic growth refers to the characterization and measurement of other attributes except the quantity in the process of economic growth. The extension refers to the judge of the merits of four core attributes, the economic efficiency, economic structure, economy operation and economic potential. The connotation of economic growth benefit refers to the relationship between the outcome of economic, social and ecological system and the consumption caused by the interaction between human and natural material in the course of economic growth, while the extension refers to three dimensions of the economic benefit, social benefit and ecological efficiency to determine fitness of economic growth output and the social purposive needs. Secondly, vertical evaluation focuses on China's economic growth from 1978 to 2014 through temporal changes. Quantity of China's economic development experiences the trend of fluctuant growth to steadily growth to exponential growth. The quality of China's economic development had revealed a fluctuant increase, but significant reduction of economic structure index leads to slowly improve about the quality of economic growth. The benefit of China's economic increases slowly with slight fluctuations influenced. Significantly improve of economic benefit made a positive effect to the economic growth benefit, while ecological benefits decreased gradually. Thirdly, from the result of coupling degree of quantity, quality and benefit of China's economic growth, it appears significant stage characteristics. In general, the periodical dynamic characteristics of the coupling relationship between quantity, quality and benefit of economic growth in China from 1978 to 2014 are characterized by a gradual change from low-level coupling to false coupling at a low degree of development to system disparity at a high degree of development. Coupling generally results from the nonlinear superposition of institution, element and technology. Moreover, at the different stage, the dominant factor affects synergistic coupling is also different. The positive factors which promote the coupling in the beginning may be changed to restraining factors in the following periods.On the basis of the empirical results in this thesis, coordination degree of quantity, quality and benefit of economic growth appears poor at the beginning of reform and opening. The coupling degree is in the unstable state of fluctuation. Coordination degree, development level and coupling degree are tending towards stability from 1992 to 2000, so the above three factors are in a coupling state. After 2001, it appears to accelerate the separation of coordination degree, development level and coupling degree:Quantity growth significantly drives the development of economy, but coupling state of the three factors drops rapidly. A growing gap appears among the quantity, quality and benefits of economic growth. Finally, from the cross-country comparative study on the coupling between quantity, quality and benefit of economic growth, it is found that the developed countries have a high degree of coordinated coupling, while the developing countries are relatively low, especially the newly emerging economies with rapid economic growth, and its inconsistency between quantity, quality and benefits of economic growth is more prominent. Although the majority of developing countries are characterized by poor coupling of quantity, quality and benefits of economic growth, each country has a different degree of severity, while China is one of the countries where the quantity, quality and benefit of economic growth are poorly coupled. As a sharp contrast with China's economic transformation in Russia, its lower economic growth and better economic benefit performance formed a strong contrast to China. Comparative study shows that rapid economic growth does not spontaneously achieve the simultaneous improvement of quality and benefit of economic growth, while the slow economic growth does not necessarily limit the quality and benefit of economic growth. Under the positive effects of external factors can promote economic growth into the coordinated evolution track of quantity, quality and benefit of economic growth.Disunity or non-coupling of quantity, quality and benefit results from the joint effects of institution, elements and technology. In order to achieve coupling and synergetic development of quantity, quality and benefit of China's economic growth, multi-dimensional transformation, which include strategy of economic development, economic growth pattern, economic growth impetus, economic growth structure and economic system, should be realized through innovation-driven, human capital accumulation, structural conversion, welfare distribution and harmonious development between human and nature.
