As the main component and energy consumption source in the machinery manufacturing industry,machine tools are featured with enormous quantity and wide use,and consume a large amount of energy with low energy utilization,great improving potential.Therefore,researches on energy efficiency of machine tools are of great significance.Existing researchses are mainly focused on the energy efficiency in machining process(also known as operation energy efficiency)of machine tools,and it got a lot of research achievements.However,the studies about the characteristics which are intrinsic and can impact the process energy efficiency of machine tools are lack,resulting in some important problems unresolved.Therefore,combining with the project financed by the National High Technology Research & Development Program of China(863 Program)and the projects financed by the Natural Science Foundation of China,this paper study characteristics of machine tools which are intrinsic and can impact the process energy efficiency.Details are as follows.The inherent energy efficiency of the machine tool and corresponding index system for evaluation are studied.Firstly,the intrinsic energy-consumption characteristics of machine toosl and their impacts on varouse processes in the future are synthetically analysed,and a concept of the inherent energy efficiency property(IEEP)of machine tools is put forward.Then,the IEEP connotation is revealed,i.e.,it can reflect the intrinsic energy-consumption characteristics of machine toos and the comprehensive energy-efficiency characteristics in varouse processes.Based on it,a set of index system for assessing the IEEP,consisting of inherent energy-consumption characteristics evaluation indicators,equivalent energy-consumption indicators and equivalent energy-efficiency indicators is developed.A novel method for evaluating the IEEP of machine tools is studied.Firstly,problems in existing evalution methods,such as incomplete energy consumption characteristics of solid test sample,evaluation results being not rigorous enough and tediousness of cutting experiment and so on,are analysed.And a virtual workpiece which can represent all energy-consumption characteristics of machine tools and the comprehensive energy-efficiency characteristics of varouse processes in future is proposed.Based on virtual workpiece,a assessment framework for evaluating the IEEP of machine tools is put forward.Furthermore,this paper proposes the description method and design procedures for virtual workpiece,and on account of the virtual workpiece,the approach to acquire IEEP evaluation indicators is proposed.Finally,the case study is carried out to verify the feasibility and practicability of above methods.A method to improve the evaluation accuracy of the inherent energy efficiency property of the machine tool is studied.Therein,acquisition method and accuracy of the IEEP of machine tools are analysed,and then the plan for improving the evaluting accuracy of the IEEP,which are based on the combination between virtual workpiece and real workpiece(i.e.,virtual-real workpiece)is introduced.Futher,this paper proposes the design method of the real workpiece in virtual-real workpiece,and based on virtual-real workpiece,the approach to acquire IEEP evaluation indicators is established.Finally,the case study is carried out to verify the feasibility of mentioned-above methods.Based on the above theoretical and technical methods,the development of the IEEP evaluation application system for machine tools is designed and conducted.and application prospects are analysised and discussed.Above researches can proved index system and evaluation method for measurement such as designing efficient machine tool,improvement of high-energy consumption machine tools and creation of efficient workshops,with a broad prospect.
