Heat radation is the main cause of the spread of tank fire. And using water to cool tanks is an effective way to prevent the heat radiation. There is a siginificant difference in the cooling water intensity between the domestic and foreign standards. The foreign standards are typically higher and even 5 times than the domestic ones.It is an important thing to adopt which standard, and there are great significances both in scientific and engineering field. The main work done is stated as follows.1.The heat transfer pattern between tanks in a fire is analyzed based on the combustion characteristics and mechanism of oil tamk flame.Thermal response processes of the large vault gasoline tanks of 3000m~3,5000 m~3 and 10000 m~3 are simulated in FDS to carry out the research on the distribution characteristics of the adjacent tank temperature field and thermal radiation field by analyzing the influence of some different initial conditions on heat radiation, such as tank volume, spacing between tanks and wind speed, etc. The work done has provided theoretical basis for the study of cooling water intensity on adjacent tanks.2.The water spray cooling model of large oil tanks is established, and the effect of cooling water intensity on thermal radiation of the adjacent tank is analyzed.According to standards of thermal radiation safety at home and abroad, the intensity range of the minimum cooling water is determined, which provides a theoretical basis for the revision of the standard for the cooling water intensity on adjacent tanks.3.With analyses of the thermal deformation characteristics and the thermal effect of nearby tanks in fire environment done and stress and strain of the adjacent tank under the effect of thermal loading simulated tthe characterization research of the tank wall stress and strain changes with temperature and the research of critical temperature,at which the tank wall yields when heated, are implimented to provide decisive basis for the reasonable cooling of nearby tanks.4.As our country is short of cooling test data of small size oil tanks, the water spray cooling test device for oil tanks is developed according to corresponding design requirements and meanwhile the test approach for colling adjacent tanks.is worked out.5.The experimental study on the water spray cooling test is carried out by using the oil tank cooling test system. The analysis of changing characteristics of the nearby tank's temperature and radiation when being cooled is implimented through the cooling test, and the study of thermal radiation reduction rate of the oil tank for different water cooling intensity is completed providing the experimental basis for the study of cooling water intensity on adjacent tanks.
