Research On Early-modern Urban Housing In Nanjing (1840-1949)

From the modernization of more than a hundred years from 1840 to 1949,the modern city dwellings in Nanjing have undergone essential changes.A series of studies aiming at the development of residential buildings in modern cities in Nanjing are of great significance for comprehensively reflecting the modernization of Nanjing society,cities and buildings.In this study,the author,after consulting a large amount of detailed historical documentation and surveying the existing modern residential sites,comprehensively and systematically analyzed the historical context of the development of modern urban residences in Nanjing,and comprehensively and accurately studied the development characteristics of modern urban residences(districts).In the study,the author carefully investigated the characteristics of residential architecture,the characteristics of residential area planning and construction,and the corresponding housing systems and regulations and strategies in each historical stage in order to form a holistic understanding of the detailed demonstration of the development of modern residential buildings in Nanjing based on the main line of the inherent development rules of residential buildings.Namely,the full-scale presentation of the periodical features of modern urban residences in Nanjing and the historical development context.The research content of the paper consists of seven chapters with close logical relationships.In the course of the research,the author divides it into three major parts.The first part is the analysis and research of modern urban residential environment in Nanjing.The second part is the evolution history of modern urban residential development in Nanjing,and the third part is the evolution rules and inspirations of modern urban residential development in Nanjing.The first part analyzes the housing generation environment of modern cities in Nanjing from the first chapter of the development of modern cities and the transformation of civic life forms,and the second chapter of the modern residential planning ideas in Nanjing and the residential space landscape in urban planning.The history analysis of the development of modern urban residential development is composed of four chapters as chapter three,chapter four,chapter five and chapter six.A comprehensive survey of the planning,construction,development and changes of modern urban residences in four historical periods respectively for 1840-1927,1927-1937,1937-1945,and 1945-1949.The third part for the rule and inspiration of modern residential development in Nanjing starts from the seventh chapter to the end.
