The Research Of Lingnan Classic Municipal Landscape In Tang And Song Dynasty

The concept of Lingnan Municipal Garden was initially developed by Mr.Liu Guanping,a theorist in Lingnan Garden.Having studied the historical development of Lingnan Garden,he created the concept of Lingnan Municipal Garden and pioneered the field study and theoretical conclusion of West Lake in Huizhou.The theoretical development of Lingnan Municipal Garden can fill in the study of Lingnan Garden and extend its framework to a certain degree.Starting from the historical shaping and garden characters of Lingnan Municipal Garden in Tang and Song dynasties,this study elaborates a few aspects of Lingnan Municipal Garden’s,including the background to its formation,the historical evolvement,the ecological structure,the characteristic of publicity and the historical influence.It finally demonstrates a series of opinions and conclusions.Chapter 1,introduction,addresses the topic selection,the study foundation,the definitions,the methodologies and the framework of this thesis.Chapter 2 discusses the historical background to the formation of Lingnan Municipal Garden,the natural environment and the historical evolvement of Lingnan area in Tang and Song dynasties,the leap-over development,the construction,the city development and the cultural development and blending of the main municipalities in Lingnan area,as well as the construction of similar landscapes and gardens outside the area,which together form the foundation of the formation and the development of Lingnan Municipal Garden in Tang and Song dynasties.Chapter 3 reviews the historical evolvement process of some typical examples of Lingnan Municipal Garden in Tang and Song dynasties.It implies that the evolvement of Lingnan Municipal Garden and the city development were closely related.It further extracts four behavior patterns of landscaping and sets up the basic framework of the study of Lingnan Municipal Garden.Chapter 4 proofs that the ecological structure of Lingnan Municipal Garden is balanced as a whole.It also states this ecological structure’s influences on the municipalities,which,particularly,fundamentally influenced the urban agriculture production.Chapter 5 addresses the characteristic of publicity of Lingnan Municipal Garden and differentiates the knowledge about public and publicity.Based on the practical governance and usage of Lingnan Municipal Garden,it analyses the important functions of Lingnan Municipal Garden in the public life of the ancient cities.Chapter 6 studies the landscaping spatial relationship of Lingnan Municipal Garden which is the changing combinations of wide,narrow,close and far.It establishes the basic paradigm of the landscaping of Lingnan Municipal Garden,and it states that Lingnan Municipal Garden worked well in extracting visiting themes of four seasons from the changing views.From three perspectives,namely landscape architectures,landscape plants and naming,this chapter discusses the basic content about landscaping.Chapter 7 implies that a great quantity of landscaping practices of Lingnan Municipal Garden in Tang and Song dynasties is a key phase in the historical process for landscape becoming garden.Lingnan Municipal Garden was the ecological protective screen for the ancient cities,which is still significant for today’s city development.Its publicity has distinctive Chinese characteristics,which originated from the creation of the local public gardens.This chapter further indicates that Lingnan Municipal Garden existed as a kind of “public garden” with Chinese ancient characteristics.Through the collection and analyses of historical materials and the studies of multiple dimensions,this thesis answers some basic questions about the landscaping of Lingnan Municipal Garden in Tang and Song dynasties,explains some complex phenomena about Lingnan Municipal Garden.It believes that Lingnan Municipal Garden is a part and a studied subject of the history of Lingnan Garden.Moreover,it concludes that Lingnan Municipal Garden has formed its own characters in the development process of ancient cities in Lingnan area and been developing as society changes.
