There are prominent seasonal rain-flood disasters,soil erosion,and other ecological safety issues cause of the lack of water resources,complex and diverse topography,with particularly fragile ecology in Shanxi-Shaanxi Loess Plateau area.In the process of urbanization,due to a tension of adapetable construction land,the building area start spreading from stepped and flat river valley areas to gully valleys and slopes,which has further caused a series of problems such as increased soil erosion,ecological damage,and lack of regional landscape and construction styles.The paper focus on the stormwater management theory and methods.Based on Sponge City strategy,BMPs and LIDs technique method,the research take the settlements sites as the research object and analyzes the hydrological process and surface runoff mechanism,meanwhile,take the traditional regional stormwater management practice experience and wisdom as the example in order to construct the system of adaptability planning method of stormwater management in the gully settlements site in Shanxi-Shaanxi Loess Plateau area.It includes the regional adaptability planning method of storm water management,relating mode of site construction.Finally,the method was applied in a practice to achieve the multi-dimensional stormwater management goals of integrated urban and rural water and soil conservation,rainwater utilization,ecological restoration,site safety,regional sponges,and regional landscape and construction preservation.The main components of the paper are as follows: First,study on the basic theory and method of regional adaptability planning of stormwater management,the core idea is to find out the feasibility of stormwater management from literature.Second,conclude the regional practice and traditional wisdom of stormwater managment.the research sums up and inherits traditions on the one hand,and compares it with the modern Sponge City technology system on the other hand,with highlights the advantages of traditional technical measures,finds the deficiencies and improves them to the modern systems.Third,site stormwater characteristics analysis and runoff mechanism of the gully-type settlement site in Shanxi-Shaanxi Loess Plateau area,which is based on the main route of surface hydrological processes,including the site topographic,runoff mechanism,spatial process simulation,the scale effect of stormwater management,and the factors affecting rain-flood control.Fourth,construction of the adaptability planning method of stormwater management in the gully settlements site in Shanxi-Shaanxi Loess Plateau area,including four major systems of goals,measures,evaluations,and regulations,as well as four major steps of site assessment,establishment of management goals,selection of appropriate strategies,and site planning policy.Fifth,research on settlements-specific adaptability planning method of stormwater management,it includes the integration and transformation of strategies and methods,the layout method of space elements on sites,and the appropriate site mode.The main goal is to realize site adaptability,strategies,and multidisciplinary approaches in specific sites.The research features and innovations are mainly summarize as these three aspects.It first briefly bring out a adaptability planning method of stormwater management in the gully settlements site in Shanxi-Shaanxi Loess Plateau area which takes the site spatial elements layout method as a typed sites goals with a traditional and modern technical emerged methods as the design mode for specific sites planning and design practice.And then by introducing the suitability evaluation and integrating the multi-disciplinary frame.It brings out a adaptability planning technology system of stormwater management in the gully settlements site based on surface hydrological processes of small-scale drainage basin.Finally,it summarize the wisdom and construction laws of traditional stormwater management in the Loess Plateau from three aspects: concept,utilization and management technology of rainwater with the site construction mode.As the main contribution,this paper combined the BMPs concept,LID technical methods,traditional soil and water conservation planning methods with the regional landscape characteristics of the gully-type settlements in t Shanxi-Shaanxi Loess Plateau area,and realized the application of LID and "Sponge City" into regional area in terms of concepts,methods,and measures.Furthermore,it responds methodologically to relevant issues in the current and future urban-rural integration planning in this area,and to a certain extent realizes innovations in planning methods across disciplines and fields.
