Spatial Transmission And Evolution Of Vernacular Dwellings In The Pasteroal Area In Alxa League,Inner Mongolia

In terms of contemporary problems such as dramatic changes of nomadic society in the context of globalization,the transformation of rural construction paradigm and the aphasia of Tradition under the background of New-type Urbanization in Rural China,focusing on the Inner Mongolia autonomous region,this dissertation selects Alxa as a unique case study on the basis of stating the general characteristics of Mongolian dwellings and settlements.Through the field investigation of Alxa area in western Inner Mongolia,on the basis of tracing the historical context of the changes of Mongolian nomadic society in Alxa,combining samples and chronological research,this paper narrative the dynamic evolution process of architectural form in Alxa.Then it clarifies the causes of changes and explains the dual interactive process of form and subjective identity.This study also aims to serve the present by analyzing the past.This paper observes and interprets the typology of contemporary ordinary dwellings,and reflects on the vernacular dwellings dilemma under the rapid change of society,attempts to provide suggestions for future development.This dissertation unfolds around the clue of "sample-context-transmit-evolve – dilemma-explore",in chapter 2,through the investigation of 150 vernacular dwellings samples in 20 sumus/towns in Alxa league,which included 100% sampling of a herding settlement and a semi-farming and semi-herding settlement and detailed mapping of 24 typical samples,it conducts a detailed arrangement of first-hand data.With the theme of context,Chapter 3 traces the transformation of Alxa nomadic society,proposes three historical nodes and clarifies the causes.Chapter 4 takes transmit as the theme and the three historical nodes as the correspondence explains the dual interaction process between the spatial form and the subjective identity and draws the evolution diagram of vernacular dwellings based on the 150 samples.Chapter 5 takes evolution as the theme,interprets the contemporary herdsmen’s dwellings with the method of architectural typology,and reads the changes of herdsmen’s life and identity from the subtle observation of herdsmen’s living space.Chapter 6 takes the contemporary dilemma as the theme to discuss the dilemma faced by the transformation of vernacular architecture in Alxa league under the background of rapid urbanization policy.By recording the process of transformation and residents’ feedback after the policy from 2014 to 2017,the paper reflects on the dual dilemma of culture and energy faced by the process of development.Finally,in the contemporary perspective of traditional discourse,it puts forward several enlightenment on the future development of rural housing in Inner Mongolia.
