of war referring specifically to the military command skills.War arts show war happening in reality as its representation, but studies on war arts concentrate on war representations in works of arts, try to interpret its aesthetic significance and social value. Many scholars attached important to its social functions in the past, ignored its aesthetical characteristics of’ the war representations formally, and took no attention to the social functions by the feature of the form-war narrative.Formalism and narrative theory open up a new direction for the war representations make up for this deficiency. This paper argues the aesthetical narrative form of war presentations, historically and logically, using narrative theory.Unlike other types of narrative works,as a complex social phenomenon, war is destruction, but liberation and regeneration. These characteristics including a series of profound paradox bring the complexity of war narrative fonn.In the historical development of human society, war is always extreme. It resulted in that war representations can be extreme narrative, and filled with violence, the ugliness and terror inevitably, make the people feel the fear, despair and shock. However, all this negative emotions enter into the aesthetic vision of the people, extend the range of aesthetics, and change the people’s aesthetic experiences.Appearances of the war arts, whether on a language-based literary arts,or the art of painting, sculpture, monuments based on visual symbols,as well as film art are often narrative priority,in spite of the different symbols, they all tells a story about the war.Imitation, irony and mutation is the main narrative strategy.Although other themes also took the same narrative strategy, the differences depend on the extreme of the war practice. These are violent behaviors, ugliness, and terror of war narratives.A large number of people were killed in war,in this sense, all of the war narratives are irony. And War narrative is often full of mutations;all unexpected occurrences are the internal logic of the war narrative,Either imitation or irony taking the narrative strategy, all of the various elements including narrative perspective, narrative time, narrative space and narrative discourse constructed a narrative field for extreme experiences. This narrative forms built stage as an extreme representation of the war narrative, showing the aesthetical characteristics different from other themes. The keys of narrative perspective lie in center of consciousness or multiple narrative consciousnesses, narrative time often captures the most impressive fragments to represent,i.e.,narrative point, and war narrative is the typical form of space narratives, which is a process from the physical space to the aesthetical space to convey the transcendent spiritual realm.Narrative discourse can be divided into two parts:dialogue and Narrative language, which erxpress the anti-war theme. The narrative strategy and its narrative fields built the basic framework of the war narratives. The artistic representations,is often characterized by violence, ugliness and terror, which its narrative and aesthetic value covers also.Aesthetic of violence and the ugliness has existed since ancient times in Chinese and Western, but they are only dependent on the beauty and don’t have the independent aesthetical space.Ugliness is actually aesthetics,so there is ugliness as beauty and ugliness into beauty. In other words, ugliness to the extreme is the great beauty, and completes the transformation from the beauty to good.In contemporary arts, this situation has been changed and "ugliness" and "terror" has independent aesthetical value.Unlike beauty focused on pleasure, ugliness and terror, based on non-beauty,reflect the artistic value and people’s feeling and understanding. This is "shock" in war narratives. The "shock" is the unique feature of Modern Art,but only in war arts, especially the extreme has been expressed centrally. It is not only reflected that the war narrative has a strong visuality,is also reflected in the fatal trauma to the narrative characters. It shocked narrative characters and viewers. The effects of shock make the war narrative taking on the characteristics of the game and self-preferentiality.Carnival-style killings become the only goal of the narrative characters.Self-preferentiality of war narratives leads to the loss of entertainment, war become the masters.Everyone involved the war is either swallowed,or depleted to the end in this nightmare. The shock of war narratives, from the inner depths of the life consciousness deconstructs the sublime, and the deception of ideological and vulgar popular culture.War narratives of arts are filled with violence, ugliness and terror, but it does not say that the war narratives are inevitable full of the depressing ugliness. It’s usually established for the denial of the ugliness,For example, poetic nature of war narrative is one. This is a life Consciousness in extreme narratives of the aesthetic of violence and ugliness, terror on the background of death. It is an inquiry of man on himself, war, society and mankind, facing the characteristics of tragedy;it’s a concern about beauty, hope, happiness, too. The descriptions of terror is not dragged the peoples into the abyss, but convey the truly valuable things to the people, through the aesthetics of violence.Dissolution of Grand Narration and individualization of the society, increasingly, war narrative of the arts also showed the corresponding characteristics. The war was pushed from the battlefields to areas such as religion, gender, sex, and all conflicts are to be described as war.As the war narrative rapidly loss it’s extreme, war is becoming the new spectacular in the horizon. | Keywords/Search Tags: | War Narratives, Violence, Shock, Poetic Nature | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
