Hua Yu, famous writer in Chinese contemporary literary world, has created a lot of works with completely different styles. According to the style of Hua Yu’s works, his novel can be divided into three phases: early phase, middle phase and late phase. His early novels concerned with the evil of human nature, and he was good at expressing the violence, blood and death in human nature by unique technique. After 1990’s, great changes have taken place in his novels. Although he continued to show various kinds of violence in his works, these works tended to show warmth in our lives. The narration of love dissolved the narration of brutal violence in his early works. After reading works carefully, we can find that the violence narration stills played an important role in his works. Compared with his early works, the novels written after 1990s’ can show Hua Yu’s ability of reflection and insight. This thesis researches on the serial and changeable characteristic of violence narration, defining and distinguishing several forms of violence. And this thesis also makes a research on how violence narration changes and what Hua Yu tends to convey in these changeable violence narrations. The introduction mainly summarizes the current research situation in China and foreign countries; meanwhile, it can also show the importance of the research on violence narration. In Chapter One, Hua Yu’s One Reality written in 1980’s is analyzed carefully. Since Hua Yu paid attention to narrative techniques, the Theory of Sequential Structure which was founded by Bremond will be used to clarify the clues of this revenge story. And the Theory of Action Element, founded by Greima will be used to analyze the motivation, means, ending of the adults’ revenge on each other, which can help us summarize four violence in the text——unconscious violence, conspiratorial violence, visionary violence, hidden violence. Finally, the Theory of the Semiotic Square which was founded by Greima will be used to analyze X model(civilization, savage, violence, humanitarian), O model(violence, non-violence, conscious, unconscious) and O model(have been educated, not have been educated, blind and impulsive, rational and calm) to find the truth of the life and know more about the text. The works analyzed in Chapter Two disrupts the procession of Hua Yu’s fiction. The researcher regards To Live as the first turning point, and puts the violence in To Live, Chronicle of a Blood Merchant, Brothers in the same group. When analyzing these three fictions, the researcher applies the Theory of Sequential Structure to analyze the main character——Fu Gui and Fan Ping Song. By analyzing two fathers, the reader can know about the warmth in violence narration, and this kind of warmth is more moving and grand because of the violence narration in the work. Then, the researcher applies the Theory of Action Element to analyze To Live, it shows the violence in One Reality is from human nature itself, but the violence in To Live is from the environment the character live in. Finally, the research analyzes the reason why Hua Yu talked about the violence in civilians and his reflections about the history and the human nature.Chapter Three is centered on Hua Yu’s new work The Seventh Day. Firstly, the researcher applies the Theory of Sequential Structure to clarify the clues of story and shows the love narration. And it can show that love narration is always in Hua Yu’s work after 1990’s; meanwhile, the violence narration in his works changes continuously. Then, the research defines thermal violence and cold violence. And the violence in The Seventh Day has changed from thermal violence into cold violence. Meanwhile, the cold violence in The Seventh Day is presented in three forms——the cold violence in the family, the cold violence in love and the cold violence in the system. These three kinds of cold violence are more destructive than the thermal violence in his previous works. Therefore, in the final part of this chapter, the researcher construct one O model to(the reality, funeral home, the imaginary, the hell) to analyze four spaces showed in The Seventh Day. In this way, the researcher can find out the reason of Hua Yu’s changeable violence and his thinking about the contemporary China. In the close, the researcher analyzes the reason why Hua Yu is crazy about the violence narration and the change of violence narration from the times and his own literary ideas. After that, the researcher summarizes the change of violence narration in detail.
