Nanshe was the largest ancient literary association in the Late Qing Dynasty. It was an important fortress of the old literature. To some extent, the transformation and decline of the Nanshe represented the transformation and decline of the old literature. With the victory of the 1911 Revolution and the establishment of the Republic of China, and the vigorous development of the New Culture Movement, for Nanshe, which was an old literary group advocating revolution, the newspaper became an important channel of national salvation in addition to the poetry creations and commentaries. The Republic Daily, which was founded in 1916,was closely associated with Nanshe, and it was not only founded by Nanshe, full of members of Nanshe from chief editors to editors, but also in line with the Nanshe in the thoughts and editorial policies of the newspaper. As the important fortress of the Nanshe, the companion of the New Culture Movement, and the important organ of Vernacular Chinese, the literary supplement of the Republic Daily was of great significance in the transformation of the old and new literature of Nanshe before transforming into the organ newspaper of Kuomintang in 1924.Under the social background at that time, the decline of Nanshe was inevitable, this decline and end were reflected in the literary supplement of the Republic Daily, which not only showed that the old literature was lack of innovation power in the social environment at that time, but also showed that the old literature was gradually transformed, moreover,it showed that the old literature share was gradually reduced until it was replaced by the new literature.Correspondingly, with the transformation from traditional literati to professional writers, the literary works were also transformed, not only did the vernacular literature increase greatly, but also the foreign literature became popular,in addition, the new literary concept was also widely disseminated through the newspapers and literary supplement such as the Republic Daily, therefore, the literature increased new functions to popularize knowledge and enlighten people. The mode of production and the mode of communication of literature also changed due to the promotion of mass media. From Nanshe to new Nanshe, from the old literatito the new literati, from the old literature to the new literature, the transformation of literature of Nanshe was not only a relatively slow and gradual process, but also a process of contradiction, entanglement, compromise and progress of the literati of Nanshe. In this process,as the main position of the transformation of literati of Nanshe, the Republic Daily impartially seemed to provide channels for the dissemination of various literary views, and showed its attitude in the practice of providing venues for the contest between new and old literary works, classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese. The Republic Daily and its literary supplement, which was sponsored by the members of Nanshe, were inevitably labeled as "Nanshe".The new literary works they created and edited not only succeeded in inheriting the literature tradition of Nanshe, and had a large number of references and use of traditional literature genres and artistic techniques, and even the development of vernacular literature was closely related to the tradition of ancient vernacular literature.Nanshe was not only the spiritual home of the traditional literati, but also was the tool of social public-opinion guidance at that time.In the social situation at that time, the transformation of the old and new literature of the Nanshe played a very important role for the improvement and innovation of traditional styles, the construction and wide dissemination of the new literary concepts, the publicity and promotion of vernacular Chinese, and the formation of "Media-Literature" production mode.
